(31,464 posts)Slogans like that only appeal to the base. We wont win without getting a broad spectrum of voters. Calling 1/2 of them, and the party which they may identify with, garbage isnt going to achieve anything but make many of them say eff you, too! and dig in their heals.
That is the percentage of American voters that will always support the GOPee and shitgibbon. It is okay to alienate those assholes because the Democratic Party should be focusing on the 50% of Americans that don't vote and that number is even higher in midterms. In fact, I've seen 80% or higher that don't vote during the midterms. Whatever slogan we choose it does not need to appeal to 35% of the voting public that are dumber than f****** rocks.

of Wisconsin. Bryce seems like your average hard working American. He's an iron worker, union member, military veteran, cancer survivor and he's a democrat. In his video ad, Bryce uses the mantra "because we care" or ''we care.' It reminded me about what George Lakoff, linquust, author and retired professor said some time ago that is relevant to this post.
George Lakoff while guest on the Tavis Smily Show (pbs) sometime during the summer, said something, something I had noticed as well...he talked about how the Women's March (Jan 21,2017) was critizied by right-wing pundits ...that there wasn't a clear message they said...complete chaos. Lakoff disagreed, said they were wrong; that there was a clear message.
He continued by acknowleging the many special interest groups participating, such as activist for Black Lives Matters; native lands and cultural protections; immigrant, refugees rights; woman's equal rights; increase minimum wage; environmental protections. ..and many more.
Yet, he said...given the participation of many groups wth diiverse concerns, there was ONE resounding cohesive theme threaded through as if to bind them all, I thought ) and that message was that WE CARE. I recall saying, yes- that's it!
WE CARE! That defines the democratic party and every democrat here and throughout the Country...that's our message..short succinct. simply put..WE CARE about the uninsured, the homeless, the hungry, the immigrant, the planet, we care that people earn a decent wage, we care about quality education, we care about the young and elderly, the disabled, the veteran. We care!

(18,411 posts)or worse than the old deal.
At any rate, I think it's more important to articulate clear policy goals with concrete steps to to accomplish them and to remind voters that the Democratic Party has a record of delivering social and economic change.
shanny
(6,709 posts)only what it did. And articulating clear policy goals with concrete steps to accomplish them is difficult in a bumper-sticker slogan.
"Make America Great Again" worked, despite the putrid nature of its cheerleader, and that it was a lie.
"A Better Deal" feels weak; how about "A Good Deal"? with its double-meaning of a) better, and b) more.

(15,682 posts)is because of Democrats.
We need a campaign about all the great things Democrats have done. Since it won't all fit into one sound bite we could have a new ad every few weeks with another great thing the Democrats have done. Same basic ad with a different great thing every few weeks.
CHIP brought to you by the Democratic party.
It was Democrats who brought you Social Security and Medicare.
Civil Rights and Womens Right to Vote? Yes, you guessed it. Brought to you by Democrats.
Free contraceptives also brought to you by the Democratic party.
By November the public should have a good idea who's better for America.

(11,238 posts)And do you really think that a reference to a slogan from the Depression era is going to resonate with younger generations? They can barely remember what WWII was about. I'm an aging Baby Boomer and even I didn't recognize the weak callback to FDR's slogan.
(That is an awful website, btw. And I say that as a graphic designer. If that's your shop, sorry, but I can fully believe it designed the D logo.)
lapucelle
(18,411 posts)Although the current logo would not have been my first choice, because I do not work in graphic design, I would never presume to be an expert.
I'm not sure why anyone would doubt that SS+K designed the logo. They did some work for President Obama's 2012 campaign and FLOTUS Michelle's "Let's Move" campaign.

If their sole aim is to focus on electing as many Democrats as possible, they need to balance appeal to the majority of the people while not alienating the powerful few.
A political party caucus in congress is not visionary. I think it is focused on the next election.
But we should really ask them what the slogan means.

(31,464 posts)But that said, any slogan needs to be short, positive and inclusive. Looking at a lot of these suggestions, there are a lot that make good sound bites for a stump speech, but are much too long, too wordy, to a good campaign slogan. To that end MAGA and Make America Great Again are excellent. The fit on hats and bumper stickers and roll off the tongue.
So...how about Unite America Again. A subtle dig at Trump which the Dems will appreciate, a positive message for everybody fed up with the current divisive politics. And it fits nicely on hats.

(36,567 posts)One for every issue. Dem leadership should read "Moral Politics" by George Lakoff. People are emotionally attached to their political beliefs. A page with your platform is great, but you need a message to get them there, & that needs to resonate on an emotional level.
Here are some slogans, written by The People. Gee, why didn't dem leadership query us & ask what we think? Any of these are better than a better deal.
snip:
The Real Deal
A Better Deal rests on a case of one-upmanship: What we offer doesnt have to be good, just better. Thats dancing to someone elses tune.
The Real Deal reminds voters that Democrats are serious about governance; it isnt all hyperbole and empty rhetoric. It suggests that Democrats know how to deliver on health care, job growth, banking protections, equality under the law. It showcases reality and the task of finding real solutions to Americas problems. The president will continue to whine about fake news, while doing his best to gaslight the nation. This leaves Democrats with the great opportunity to define themselves as the enemies of unreality: We are the real deal.
