Hoda Kotb Salary: 'Today' Host To Make $18M Less Than Matt Lauer

http://www.ibtimes.com/hoda-kotb-salary-today-host-make-18m-less-matt-lauer-2636431?utm_content=bufferc2227&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

By now everyone is aware of the fact that Matt Lauer — the disgraced "Today" host who was fired after allegations of sexual harassment arose against him — was replaced ironically by a woman. But few are aware of the fact that Hoda Kotb, the woman who replaced him, earns far less salary for the same job which paid Lauer $25 million a year.

On Monday, Kotb signed $7-million-a-year deal with NBC to host the “Today” show with co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, who has a similar deal with the network. This means that the show’s first ever all-female lineup will be earning less than Lauer, their salaries combined, Page Six reported.

Speaking of Kotb alone, she landed $18 million short of what her predecessor made. And this is despite getting a raise from her old gig, where she co-hosted the "Today" show’s fourth hour with Kathie Lee Gifford at 10 a.m. since 2008.

Even after she steps into shoes of Lauer, co-hosting the show from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., she will continue to host her old show with Gifford. The double job might be the reason Kotb received a promotion from the network.

Guess that button in his office that locked the door was pretty expensive to maintain, huh. /sarcasm off

2. it's not "ironic" that he was replaced by a woman. it's the opposite of ironic. it's apropos.

ironic would be replacing him with an even worse offender.

It's a convenient narrative to focus on the absolute amount rather than the concern it's supposed to, in part, address.

How terrible, indeed. Bless your heart.

4. What was his starting salary when he first took over as host?

That’s the comparison, not her starting salary versus his ending salary. If you have a person which more years experience doing a job that leaves, a newer person with less experience taking it over would normally make less.

Lauer's salary was presumably increased over the years because of their ratings success. Hopefully if Guthrie and Kotb can continue that success they will get rewarded accordingly.

Then given the time frame, we have to adjust upward for time value of money. So, if he got $4 million 15 years ago, then it would appear she got gypped. But, if he got $3 million 15 years ago, her salary would be about right.

A respected one, as well as an on-air talent who can also do the "silly" stuff.

11. to be fair - she won't have need of a yrly $18 million slush fund to settle harassment accusations

But also I don't think that was what Lauer started making

It's her first year -she will hopefully earn her way up the dollar chain

Adjusted for inflation, I think that should be the real comparison.
