In these 5 red states, marijuana is as popular as Trump. So how is Sessions's decision

going to go over in states like this? Democrats might have an opening.

The results of the 2016 election tell us being a Republican and a marijuana legalization advocate are no longer mutually exclusive, if the labels ever were to begin with.

Eight US states voted on marijuana legalization ballots in the 2016 Election. Five of them — Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Montana, and North Dakota — turned red for Trump. Of those five, four states also legalized cannabis in some form, the Marijuana Business Daily reports.

"In each case, with the exception of Arkansas, the cannabis initiatives received almost as many or more votes than Trump garnered," the Marijuana Business Daily's Eli McVey writes.

Florida delivered a big win for Trump in the election, giving him 49% of the vote. By comparison, a bill legalizing medical marijuana in the Sunshine State received 71% of the vote.

I've been saying this for years. Unfortunately many of our leaders are stuck in the mud on this. afraid to unambiguously support legalization, afraid to denounce the war on drugs for the abject failure that it is.

It will be interesting to see what 2018 brings in terms of registration and turnout drives. I know Women's March is working to get marchers registered at the events. NYC's event would also need to have forms for NJ and CT (and maybe other states).

Just like Trump punishing blue states, this is the same kind of thinking. A lot of republicans live in blue states. A lot of republicans smoke weed. This will backfire, but they are too fucking arrogant to see it.
