Just checked, and they haven't ordered it yet, so I think I'll put in the request.

(19,204 posts)are stiffing your local Mom and Pop book stores for Amazon? Don't be surprised when they lock their doors and go out of business, if they haven't already.
I live in a College town, so we still have a bricks and mortar book store. I know.....Amazon is cheaper and more convenient for many, but if you had a choice and didn't buy locally.....shame on you. Consider the few bucks extra you pay to buy locally an investment in the future of your town. Boarded-up store fronts are so unsightly! Just sayin'.

(129,984 posts)the brick and mortar book stores closed 5 - 20 years ago. I lived near several chains - an Encore Books, a Walden Books, a later huge Barnes & Noble, and a good-sized Borders that I used to patronize. Thanks to the mega-sized chains like Barnes and Noble, the Encore chain went out of business unable to compete, with Walden following them not long after (the smaller chains absorbed by the larger ones). Eventually the multi-floor Borders went bankrupt and closed the store near me about 7 years ago. The Barnes and Noble closest to me then closed about 5 years ago (although I just saw they have one a little further out from that location).
The smaller mom and pops near me tend to be subject-specific or used book stores. THAT is why I am on Amazon.
One cannot assume that because someone goes online to get books, then that was the chicken-egg cause of the local store closing. It was the other way around in my case.
