Trump's "Wizard of Oz" moment.

Trump appeared "live" during a press briefing, but instead of walking 50 feet to the press room, he was a looming head on a video monitor.

We can chuckle about "Big Brother" and snark about how the press doesn't like him and he doesn't want to answer questions so he wants to keep his distance. But I think the purpose of this was more serious and disturbing.

If you watch, he's reading a prepared statement. At one moment he rattles off a pretty long list of companies who are giving bonuses due to his tax bill. He actually gets through it really fast. Before this there is a cut and the angle changes.

Why on earth would they use two cameras and have multi-angles in what's basically intended as a still face-shot like you see on the news all the time?

The reason? Trump was not speaking live. Actually, that's not a secret, but the reason they pre-recorded and edited this is because he was incapable of getting through the entire text of his remarks in one pass. He's not a public speaker, and he, the "President of the United States" is incapable of giving a short speech nor can't be bothered to do so in person, despite him taking the most leisure time of any elected President in history. He's not doing the job. He is getting to the point where they have to invent ways to make it appear he is doing the job.

That is the first time I've seen him speak in a long time. He is decompensating fast. Anyone who has ever been around people with dementia will instantly recognize this. It's obvious he is struggling to carefully speak each word. One of the tests neurologists use in assessing for dementia is to have the patient draw a clock. Sounds simple, right? Not if you have dementia. The circle isn't round and the numbers are all over the place. It's probably too much to hope that his upcoming physical will include that test.

They'll give him little intro paragraphs on the prompter, and he'll defer reports to other people.

"And now with the White House style update, here's the curvaceous and beautiful Ivanka Trump! (Isn't she gorgeous, can you believe that came out of me? So fuckable. So very... What? What about my mic? It's still--)"

after playing golf almost every day.

Something about a "heavily made up" Trump couldn't recognize his old friends at Mar-a-lago.

Now this short speech that he obviously couldn't get through without editing.

Hmmm...

Or maybe just more dementia.
