Major donor reconsiders support for Democrats who urged Franken to quit

Buell said in a text message on Saturday that withdrawing support from the senators who called for his resignation was “an option” she was considering.

“In my gut they moved too fast,” she wrote, adding that Franken “was never given his chance to tell his side of the story.”

“For me, this is dangerous and wrong,” she added. “I am a big believer in helping more women into the political system but this has given me an opportunity to rethink of how I can best help my party.”

...has to be a value on consensus and a tacit understanding that we are in this together. We cannot sacrifice rooks for pawns unless we are a move away from check and mate. We can't favor idealism over pragmatism with stolen elections and a compromised political system.

I'm not sure what the lesson is here, unless she's hoping to see Trump's hand strengthened heading into 2020.

not easily manipulated. Sharp. If someone wants to represent the interests of a lot of people, I would expect that they'd be mature, independent thinkers, independent movers, leaders, and not hasty with decisions.

But progressives will not win in every area. In some areas, the choice is Republican or Blue Dog Democrat.

There are other Democrats to support besides ones who fell into the Republican trap of getting rid of one of the most effective Senators.

Or Sherrod Brown? Or Elizabeth Warren?

That's about as shortsighted as it gets. And I'm 100% sure that Al Franken would be the first to object over a horribly dangerous and disgusting strategy.

And who can win elections.

I was disappointed to see that Sherrod Brown jumped on the bandwagon. Very disappointed. He didn't strike me that way.

Sure, hounding Franken from office was wrong. That cannot now be undone.

If the Democrats do not take control of the Congress in November, the country is lost. Nothing else matters.

consider the possible consequences of their actions. I myself am taking control of where and to whom my money goes in the future. I will not donate to the DNC who did nothing when the s*** hit the fan with Al Franken. I will tell you that in 2018 Minnesota has two seats up for grab instead of one. It scares the bejeebes out of me that Michelle Bachmann could win one of those seats. In my opinion, the result of what was done lies completely at Schumer and Guillibrand's doors. Very poor leadership shown by ranking Democrats.

She's not pulling support from Democrats. She may pull her support from THOSE Democrats, for the obvious reason that they are not leaders and are easily manipulated by the opposition. There are other dems to support.

From Lori Sturdevan's editorial:

A late-December poll by the Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling (PPP) firm found fully half of Minnesota voters thinking Franken should not resign. Three-quarters of those polled thought Minnesotans — not Senate Democrats — should have been the ones to decide Franken’s fate. That thinking ran stronger among women and DFLers than others polled.

Those numbers say that a whiff of disappointment and even illegitimacy clings to Smith where it matters — in Minnesota.

Shaking that off is a task of both delicacy and urgency for Smith. She dare not go too far in acknowledging the disappointment of Minnesotans who regret Franken’s departure, lest she minimize earnest demands for more respectful treatment of women. But if she becomes the go-to senator among scribes seeking political reaction to the latest #MeToo headline, Smith will repeatedly remind Minnesotans about how and why their U.S. senator is named Smith, not Franken. That’s a memory she should want to bury, not stir.

They just show up, do their job, vote, and go home. They're not going to be all over tv opining on the issues. They're newbies. Like several senator's wives who took the places of their deceased senator husbands.
