If someone downloads it, they are making another unauthorized reproduction, which is a violation, NYU School of Law Professor Christopher Sprigman explained in an email to Law&Crime. The damages could be up to $150,000 (this is the maximum statutory damage for willful infringement per work), plus attorneys fees.

(65,539 posts)OTOH, the risk of losing a whole lot of money over an illegal download might impress someone who thinks it's a good idea to save a few bucks this way.

artistic or intellectual output without remuneration by dint of having paid for OTHER artistic or intellectual output in the past. Thats an utterly absurd argument.

(22,069 posts)Just because you bought a car ten years ago doesn't mean you can steal one today. You haven't "earned" any right to something you don't own.
Intellectual property, such as books, music and videos are basically equal to physical property in the eyes of the law.
Did you now that copyright, patents and trademarks are guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution? What you are proposing (or doing) is a crime , it's un-American and it's tremendously unethical.
Please reconsider your stance.

(13,776 posts)Of course they will.
I almost wonder whether Trump's minions will suffer more from this than normal people will, thinking this is a way to find out what's in the book without putting money in Wolff's pocket.

I dont care if people steal the book. Better that than lining the pockets of an enemy.

(65,539 posts)huge fines will probably work better as a deterrent.
That should be reason enough.

(58,777 posts)Is that a good enough reason? I've heard plenty enough about it. Not really interested in propping up Wolff's career or putting money in his pocket.
