The average guy or gal on the street is probably clueless about what is going on. Only political activists seem to care about what Trump and the GOP is doing. Outside of the upcoming elections we won't know if there will be bad outcomes for Republicans. And in the end less than 50% of the voting population will vote or even care. So less than 30% of the population will decide.
Add everything up and we have 3 more years of this mayhem ahead of us. Should we take the House or Senate and such an outcome is no guarantee with all the money the Kochs, Mercers, Petersons, Russian et al will throw in. And the way our media acts by giving the GOP cover all the time we have to hope. It means voters for the Democrats have to turn out in great numbers .
The GOP is still in power and will likely still have enough power to obstruct even if they lose the House or Senate or both. If you look at how successful they were during the Obama years you have to wonder if they will ever pay any price.
I will be cynical until something actually happens to change things for the better. The problem I have is watching the steady erosion since Reagan and it only slowly got worse since 1981. The GOP agenda advanced like slow moving lava. The GOP has sabotaged so much already. Yet they keep getting elected and are NEVER punished for their misdeeds.
Yes I am on a downer right now. But the lay of the land does not foreshadow anything moving in a positive direction. Based on what has been going on the Democrats should have easy races no matter what. Trump was so bad he should have even lost to monkey. The fact that he won says a lot about our intelligence as a nation.
Of course I still hope things in the US will turn around and Trump will crash in some way. I hope the polls are right about Dem wins and that they hold and bear fruit.

(6,139 posts)it didnt really reveal anything we did not already know. The book reads like PR for Bannon and his possible 2020 run.
The only revelation is that 100% of WH staff thinks he is unfit but everyone is trying to take advantage of him one way or another. He is a perfect gop president, will sign anything they give him, has no policy knowledge or even interest, never reads what he sings (lawyers do).

(30,481 posts)I will take that any day. It's actually held for a pretty long cycle considering the attention span of our media.
