and even called her a DINO? And called for new blood, and were ready to throw away the advantage Feinstein gave her district in terms of seniority and experience?
Well, that seniority makes her the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, and her experience gave her the understanding of what they have been dealing with in the Russia investigation. And her personal STRENGTH gave her the BRAVERY to stick out her neck and release the transcript of the Fusion GPS testimony.
THANK YOU, SENATOR FEINSTEIN!!!!
Here is the transcript:

I hope her move encourages the others to take those gloves off and get street level fighter mojo.

(5,272 posts)ranking position would be a great loss. Yes, I'd rather a more progressive democrat replace her, in the progressive state of California. These sorts of posts are so strange to me. You don't wipe a slate of disappointment clean with one good thing. If you want to do a side by side of good versus bad to make a case, then that may go some ways to explaining why people who want a primary challenger are wrong for wanting it, but just saying remember how people have disparaged Feinstein, well they are wearing egg on their face now har har...does not convince that we've been wrong to be down on her in the past.

(16,672 posts)I wished I lived in lala land to think placing all approved progressives by the far left is the magic answer to the BS in DC.
Government is way more complicated than that.

(5,272 posts)middle here?
Well, our alternative course has not yielded very good results, wouldn't you say? 1000 seats or so lost across local state and federal seats in 30 years? We've got a problem, and its not the occasional lefties running at the top.
I have no illusions about how complicated government is, nor how impossible it is to get elected unless you've made at least some friends of some industries, but the costs of that have been way too high, and while that has yielded shitty results against republicans, it has barred left-wing progressives from winning seats because they just don't have the purse strings to compete.

(5,210 posts)that doesn't erase all her past faults and failings. Sorry, it just doesn't.
Now if she goes forward with as much chutzpah on a continuing basis, she may win me over.

(171 posts)I'm from Cali, where she's been a hard-core prohibitionist for years, and done everything she could to keep ruining people's lives and sending them to jail for simple possession of cannabis. In this regard, she has been no better than Jeff Sessions.
That said, I can't thank her enough for her incredibly brave move in regards to the release of the Fusion transcripts. Almost makes up for her being a stalwart drug warrior. Almost.
But I digress ; Thank you, Senator Feinstein. You are my democratic "Hero of the Week". Keep up the good work and don't let these republican traitors conceal anything!

Funny how anti choice male Dems are "pure" enough.

(51,673 posts)Judiciary Committee as I had already planned to do today. I called them all on Aug 29 after seeing Hatch and Grassely on Rachel when they said that they had no problem releasing the testimony. I saved all their numbers and I got voice mail after voice mail as I made my way down the list of the 11 senators. I finally got a real person with call number 7 at Sasse's office and he told me that Feinstein just released 300 pages. I almost dropped my phone. I called Feinstein (my rep) to thank her for releasing the testimony.

(37,648 posts)That has NOTHING to do with the particular person currently in office. It reflects the opinion that after a period of time, new blood is needed in a post. This is common for companies, as well. A fresh look at things, new perspective, more enthusiastic energy, etc.
Of course the one in the job currently has more seniority. People recommending new blood recognize there are drawbacks, as there are to anything.
pnwmom
(109,025 posts)saying that "new blood is needed," even though Bernie is just a few years younger.
And the fact is, a new Dem wouldn't have been the ranking member of a key committee in the Senate. If DiFi had retired a few years ago, that transcript wouldn't have been released. It was the combination of her experience, her seniority, and her personal courage that made this to happen.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)If you're a long-timer, you are going to be older, probably. BUT NOT NECESSARILY. It means fresh blood into the job and the organization. It's what keeps companies alive and competitive. Our Congress could use some of that, as could the Democratic Party. Too many long-timers, too comfortable in their jobs.

Sometimes new blood isn't what is needed -- it's smart, stubborn, old blood that accomplished this release.

(37,648 posts)considered? No. Did she speak up when her co-Senator Franken was railroaded out of the Senate? No.
She's high ranking, smart, and articulate. She is where she is for a reason.
But it is NOT (getting back to my original post) denigrating to state that new blood is needed. That's just a fact with all organizations and companies.
I'm not saying she should be replaced. It's not up to me.
Not sure that this one report release is worthy of a big pat on the back, though, like she did something extraordinary. Like call Sessions a liar (like Franken did...now there is an example of fresh blood, who just laid the facts out there).
pnwmom
(109,025 posts)when the Mueller report has not been completed, the Rethugs are in charge of both Houses of Congress, and there is zero chance of impeachment and conviction. Crying wolf in the Senate accomplishes nothing, expect to lower your credibility over time.
And she deserves huge credit for taking the unprecedented, extraordinary step of unilaterally releasing the transcript. Name a single time a minority member of Congress has even taken such a step. You can't, because it has never happened.
Did Bernie speak up when Franken was pushed out of the Senate? Why don't you complain about him, too? At 76, he's old enough to be on your target list for replacement with new blood.
