On October 31, 2016 the NY Times headlined the following story:
"Investigating Donald Trump, F.B.I. Sees No Clear Link to Russia"
....................
"That New York Times article from Oct. 31, 2016, on the FBI investigation into the links between Russia and the Trump campaign wont stop wiggling around in the newspapers archives. Investigating Donald Trump, F.B.I. Sees No Clear Link to Russia, reads the headline over a piece that addressed an ongoing probe that hadnt yet found any conclusive or direct link between Mr. Trump and the Russian government. The story continues: And even the hacking into Democratic emails, F.B.I. and intelligence officials now believe, was aimed at disrupting the presidential election rather than electing Mr. Trump.

An opinion piece by Erik Wernpie in the Washington Post pretty much throws cold water from the NY Times excuse that the NY Times never meant to give the Trump campaign a "clean bill of health".

what was the Times' excuse when Judy Miller told us that Iraq was acquiring WMDs again?

(1,825 posts)Has a lot of explaining to do.
Why did they do this?
Unless to protect the person in the Trump campaign that was talking to them.
Jim Comey also has to explain why he was OK releasing the info about Hilary but not about Trump.

(10,159 posts)They also damaged Clinton by entering into an agreement with Peter Schweizer to publish pre-publication information from his hit piece called Clinton Cash. Schweizer worked with Steve Bannon before writing this book, which was part of Bannons plan to damage Hilary. The information in the book has been debunked, but the NYT reported it as fact before the election. Add their slant toward Trump by not reportng any of the well-known facts about his business dealings and his fines for money laundering, and you have an anti-Clinton bias that helped Trump win.

(6,088 posts)Or maybe they just got to keep their kneecaps.
The thing is, once you accept that the Russian oligarchs intended to tip the election toward Donald Trump, it's pretty much a done deal that maximally thuggy and corrupt things happened.

(92,510 posts)and how until recently the Times refused to acknowledge that they were giving trump a get out of jail free card during 2016.
That is the second link in the post, and was on the WP online front page.
It also didn't stop at 2016. There is plenty of reporting throughout 2017 where the Times went out of their way to present false equivalencies between Democrats and republicans.

(58,785 posts)journalism has been superb recently and a tremendous force for democracy. Our founding fathers wrote freedom of the press into the first amendment--it's that critical to democracy. The NYT has been awarded over 150 Pulitzers and garnered I have no idea how many nominations, truly a world-class paper.
While it continues to earn awards, studies have proven and quantified the NYT's chronically dishonest coverage of Hillary and the Democratic Party. It seems certain that without the NYT's help Trump would never have been elected and the GOP would not control congress.
If Pulitzers required high standards of journalism of an entire paper, instead of just an article or series, the NYT would be completely disqualified.
These recent examples of flagrantly dishonest journalism, all pulling the same direction, seem to be de facto proof that the NYT is being infiltrated by the same huge corrupting forces that took over the GOP: Namely conservative seditionists among the new ultrawealthy classes that we should never have allowed to arise. They are using their money and power, and owership, to corrupt all our institutions to their purpose.
Including the AP, btw, which itself blankets this entire nation with a blizzard of its releases every day, and on a few select days in 2016 blanketed the nation with lies and misinformation about Democratic candidates.
