(15,805 posts)I live in the desert and we have 4 seasons. Spring, although short, is my fave with fields of brilliant wildflowers -- orange, yellow, purple, pink, white -- carpeting the desert floor in a solid mass of color that extends to the horizon.
No one moves away because it's all here, and even if I lived near the beaches in the LA area where the weather is stable most of the year, in the winter I would only be a short drive away from snow skiing up in the mountains. In the autumn I could go camping in one of our scenic parks to enjoy the massive redwood trees or the majestic Yosemite Valley, or take a fall train tour through the wineries of Napa... that was a lot of fun!

(2,434 posts)"no one moves away ...". I simply said I had moved away. Never said why, but I did live in the L.A. area and I did miss the change of seasons, of which there is almost none in L.A.

(183,019 posts)Trying an experiment. Rubbing the windows with potato or onion is supposed to make cleaning them off much easier. It has something to do with the sugars. I went with the potato.
We'll see.
Expecting 1-3 inches.

(22,231 posts)Snowed all last night and most of today. I think we have close to 5".
Our little town is on national news with multi-vehicle pile up off the icy I-65 exit. Tanker trucks, Greyhound bus, several cars.

(3,827 posts)At least that's what the local weather people are saying. So I'm guessing we'll either get half an inch, or 3 foot - that's how bad our local weather dopes are around here.

(6,283 posts)..... except on the streets which are as clear as if it were a bright summer day, yet people are driving as if they are on black ice. Must be psychological.

(6,283 posts).... for people to drive 20 miles an hour on a road that is 100% clear of any snow or ice. It's psychological, and for a lot of people, outweighs common sense, whether there are 50 cars on the road, or five cars.

I hope it is not icy - I need to go to my cardio rehab workout at one o'clock.

(34,139 posts)I'm concerned - we have to drive over a bridge on the way into town and they are warning about icing on bridges. The high today is only supposed to be 38 but that will be after the drive into town. I'm not sure any ice will be gone if the sun isn't out by the time we need to leave.
I may bail on my PT today and stay cuddled up in my toasty blankets!

(5,591 posts)Just talked to my sister in Atlanta. She was watching whisky snow clouds being blown past her window while she piled several comforters around her in her recliner. They have a full cupboard of necessities but dont plan on moving for a few days.
