Pierce: Now I Don't Know What to Believe

Now I Don't Know What to Believe
"He has incredible genes, I just assume."
By Charles P. Pierce

What’s up, Doc? From CNN:

"I have no concerns about his cognitive ability," Dr. Ronny Jackson told reporters on Tuesday. He said the testing was conducted at the President's wishes, and the results were normal. Ahead of the exam, the White House said that tests for mental acuity would not be included. The question arose after a week of speculation about Trump's mental fitness for office, spurred by the publication of a damaging book that suggested Trump's own aides worry about his stability.

It was an altogether remarkable press conference by Jackson, who also functioned as personal physician to President Barack Obama. We are told that the current septuagenarian president* is one pound shy of qualifying as obese, that he does not eat well or exercise enough, but that he’s in good health because of his “incredible genes.” From the New York Daily News:

"I told the President if he had a healthier diet over the last 20 years, he might live to be 200 years old," Jackson told reporters. "He has incredible genes, I just assume. If I didn't watch what I eat, I wouldn't have the cardiac and overall health that he has. He's very healthy despite he does those things."

Jackson spoke for over 50 minutes. The problem is that a lot of what he said doesn’t make sense. For example, I don’t believe that the president* weighs 239 pounds, or that his resting heart rate is 68. I don’t care whether he’s got a platinum genome or not. The man looks like a UPS truck on the golf course. But Jackson is completely legit. This is incomparably strange and, for the nonce, I’m going to believe my lying eyes.

They hid Kennedy's, Reagan's, and FDR's health problems, too.

There was no way Der Trumpenfuhrer was going to come out of that without being portrayed as an Olympian God, despite what is obvious to all our eyes.

6. Question: does the doctor-patient privilege apply to the presidential physical exam?

I'm assuming it does, and that the doctor is not permitted to divulge this information without patient consent.

Trump certainly would not consent to a legitimate report; hence, Dr. Jackson is simply reading the words provided to him by the White House staff.

President Donald Trump is predicting his first health checkup by a military physician will go 'very well,' as the public awaits the first disclosure by a doctor outside of Trump's employ.

'I think it's going to go very well,' Trump told reporters when asked about his physical a day before he sees a Navy doctor. He added that, 'I'll be very surprised if it doesn't.'

11. Why this dog and pony show, instead of just releasing an official medical report?

A simple press release by the doctor stating that pending completion of all tests, it appears that trump* is not suffering from any significant health issues would have raised far fewer concerns. He could even have added that he discussed the importance of with the "president".

For a physician to use such cringe worthy superlatives when discussing anyone's health is beyond unprofessional. This is what has set my radar on high alert.

would have been more credible. Just some of those over the top comments made it seem shady.

Live to be 200? Seriously?
