Note to Democrats and media: Do not use ever use chain migration. Its a loaded right wing phrase like death taxes. The proper phrase for the provision, according to the Immigration Act of 1965, is family reunification.

(881 posts)Thank-you, Jonathan. It disgusts me how easily democrats adopt loaded ring wing phrases that turn a 'positive' into a 'negative' and make it into a defensive instead of supporting discussion.
I do like that Joy Reid calls out and doesn't allow any guest to talk about the 'Democrat' Party. She always corrects and ensures they use the words 'Democratic' Party. More media and our elected officlals need to do the same.

(985 posts)My grandmother's uncle came here around 1910, got a job, got settled, and then brought more family from Latvia. That's the way it's always worked. Trump's grandfather came here from Germany, made money in the Yukon running fvcking brothels, and then went back to Germany and brought back his wife.
Having the first immigrant get settled, get employed, and then bring more family when there's a stable place for them to live and be supported is the responsible way to do it.
The Republicans have been enormously successful using terms like "death taxes" to refer to estate taxes that only affect people who are inheriting over $10 million, to blind their impressionable rubes as to what they actually are. There needs to be a lot more pushback against these tactics by the "mainstream" media.

(47,772 posts)came here as a family member. One or two come first and establish themselves or open a business, and then gradually send for other family members. It has been pretty much the same, if you go back to the early European settlers in this country. Family makes a society stronger.
The media needs to stop repeating these awful words and phrases that republicans generate. Republicans have few real talents (like governing), but they are masters at propaganda.
