(40,416 posts)I keep going back to her AGT performances. I view them over and over. She is incredible. But this one is awesome. Darci is doing all the singing, even while she is negotiating the walk down to the judges stand. She never misses a beat, or a note.
This is the performance that cemented her AGT win. It was perfection. Plus, Simon was correct. Darci has a wicked sense of humor.

(4,341 posts)republican women have plugs in their ears, and some of them seem to agree with what the guy said, so I don't expect he will get too much rejection from that.
I have a woman friend, mother of two daughters, who refuses to listen to anything politics, she votes straight republican, doesn't care who it is, if he/she has an (R) to the left of their names she votes for them. Her argument? Her grandparents were republican, her parents are republican, so she is republican.
She would vote for that guy, even if he were convicted of abusing and physically hitting his wife, why? because she would never hear about it. What % of white women voted for Trump?

(1,595 posts)It reminds us to stand strong with our sisters. It's a reminder, women must never feel comfortable and put down the torch. If the torch is put down toxic masculinity will be sure to grab and run with it. During the primary there were Russian trolls here on DU telling Millennial women that sexism didn't exist. I'm serious. DU was flooded with Russian trolls saying sexism didn't exist. I could not believe what was happening even here at DU.

The videos are "paid for by Sykes for Senate" but there's no way they could be.
Someone did this for him for gratis or partial gratis, and it's not been recorded as a donation.
A quick look at Sykes' LinkedIn shows this guy "recommending him," who works in the military shooting and editing video:

He links from his webpage to a portfolio of his military videos.

*here are the conditions under which the unconditional love will be given.
He's imposed a "small price" on his relationship and his wife's "women's rights" but brushes it off because she "loves to pay" it anyway. How do you fall in love with someone transactionally? I mean, this sounds like REALLY traditional marriage. You remember the kind where it was literally a financial transaction with dowry, etc?

(17,128 posts)Women have worked at home or in public for a lot longer than 5 decades. Think of the farm women who had their butter and egg money. Think of the women who took in laundry, cleaned houses, wet-nursed. Think of saloon girls. Think of unspoken scientists, think of women who were the first nurse, the first doctor, the first astronaut. If every person of every sex, every color, every faith could work to his or her full capacity, there would be no limit to the benefits. But no, jerks like this guy want to cripple humanity with outdated, outmoded ideals that never were and never will be, except for a few upper class homes where people can role-play to their hearts' content.
I've got cookbooks over 100 years old that belonged to my grandmother and my great aunt. Not only cooking, but how to dress game and fish, how to care for an invalid, how to make clothing dye, how to make chemical cleaning products, how to determine if the wood-burning cook stove was hot enough to bake bread, or cool enough to cook custard. Women in the home worked all day every day, and they were never done. And not only the work, but being married to Courtland Sykes types on top of it all. It's no wonder you go old cemeteries and see 3 or 4 wives for every husband, and sometimes infants, too.
This guy doesn't want a wife. He wants a slave. He can throw in terms like women's rights, but on his terms, so no thanks. I need a caveman like him like I need a crutch. He and his family sound like half-life never-weres.

(6,476 posts)You must read "About" her life-story-its crazy loony tunes stuff too--something about her family moved her back to area near South Korea DMZ because of Bill Clinton. She could literally see 14 year old Kim Jung Un from her back porch. I think these 2 probably met while seeking "treatment":
"What started this peculiar journey for us was the candidacy of William Clinton in 1996. That year, Clinton ran for reelection against dad's old friend and onetime political mentor, Bob Dole. Clinton was the last straw, so dad picked up stakes and moved us out of the country. I think he wanted us to see what a debauched idea socialism was and that socialism was what the Clintons stood for. He wanted us to see what socialism did in the real worldhow it destroyed people and human happiness in practice.
"First, we moved to South Korea, a few miles from the DMZ, where I began the first of the many years it took to learn to speak my mother's native Korean. There, I could look out across the fences into and across the DMZ, past soldiers and guns, at the worse enslavement and torture of human beings on God's earth at this insanity of the total socialist state--at what was the home of a then 14-year-old boy named Kim Jung Un, who was playing somewhere inside this prison camp country; who would soon grow into a madman who would one day die in there when he tried to blow up America and the world, killing millions, including my Korean loved ones in Seoul, just 30 miles from the DMZ.

(1,202 posts)As originally printed:
~ Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal ready on time for his return. This is a way of letting him know that you have been thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they get home and the prospect of a good meal is part of the warm welcome needed.
~ Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you'll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people.
~Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it.
~Clear away the clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives.
~Gather up schoolbooks, toys, paper, etc. and then run a dustcloth over the tables.
~Over the cooler months of the year you should prepare and light a fire for him to unwind by. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift too. After all, catering to his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.
~Prepare the children. Take a few minutes to wash the children's hands and faces (if they are small), comb their hair and, if necessary, change their clothes. They are little treasures and he would like to see them playing the part. Minimize all noise. At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of the washer, dryer, or vacuum. Try to encourage the children to be quiet.
~Be happy to see him.
~Greet him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him.
~Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours.
~Make the evening his. Never complain if he comes home later or goes out to dinner, or other places of entertainment without you. Instead, try to understand his world of strain and pressure and his very real need to be at home and relax.
~Your goal: Try to make sure your home is a place of peace, order and tranquility where your husband can renew himself in body and spirit.
~Don't greet him with complaints and problems.
~Don't complain if he's late for dinner or even if he stays out all night. Count this as minor compared to what he might have gone through at work.
~Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or lie him down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him.
~Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice.
~Don't ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment or integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.
~A good wife always knows her place.
