Not the satirical article, but the response. There are a lot of people like this out there. And they probably vote. This makes me cry.

Just a whole vicious circle. Keep 'em dumb.

(30,481 posts)Even though its a given. Yes, Moon Lake, sections of South St. Pete, and other areas around me have failing education systems.
I do understand there are vast differences regionally. Thanks for highlighting a huge part of the problem.

(30,481 posts)Description of public education. The glass house argument should have died long ago considering its intent.
It is funny. Ill give you that. What a time for me to make such a basic error. I was sidetracked transferring profits into my account. Probably shouldnt post when Im doing that.

(28,261 posts)The residents think that they are saving several hundred or a thousand dollars a year on property taxes, when just that little amount causes people who can afford to leave their communities to do so and that ushers in a slowly forming economic blight. Property values lower, rateables start to drop as more Gold to Cash stores start to open and larger national businesses shun the area. Crime starts to go up, which just takes a little to further devalue people's residential investments and a calling goes out to increase police presence, which incurs more of a drain on tight municipal budgets. Other services are cut back, as landscaping, roadway, curbing and sidewalk repair wanes, fire departments slowly become outmoded, etc. This further degrades the town's curb appeal. Since education is the largest nut, more calls to reduce teachers and salaries are made, causing a return to the first sentence.
