Sean Hannity’s Twitter account was seemingly deactivated, shortly after his painful on-air U-turn over Donald Trump’s reported attempt to sack special counsel Robert Mueller.

Users trying to access the Fox News host’s feed on Saturday were told: ”Sorry, that page does not exist.”

The reason for the verified account’s disappearance was unclear. It was restored after several hours, although initially with fewer than 320 followers.

The Fox News host's Twitter account appeared to have been deactivated (Twitter)

Mr Trump has denied trying to sack the special counsel, who is investigating allegations that Russia influenced the presidential election and colluded with the Republicans’ campaign. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the President called the story “fake news”.

Some Twitter users suggested Mr Hannity may have deactivated his account account to escape online mockery over his U-turn.

"I guess that snowflake melted from the heat of ridicule he brought on himself," suggested one.

Mr Hannity’s account disappeared hours after posting a tweet reading “Form Submission 1649”.

It was unclear what the post meant, but some users joked that the Fox News anchor may have been attempting to send a coded message about 'deep state' conspiracy theories.

Well given the torrent of abuse against the FBI (and his influence on POTUS) a potential obstruction of justice charge isn't out of the question I guess.

But form 1649?

I was wondering if he might've been hacked. Or if he did it to himself for attention...?

Fox News' Sean Hannity forced to make painful Trump u-turn on live TV

The XFL is basically an NFL for Trump supporters

Fox News host Sean Hannity made a painful u-turn on his show about whether Donald Trump tried to fired Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating alleged ties between Russia and the Trump campaign.

Mr Hannity, one of Mr Trump’s most loyal supporters, first suggested that a story reporting that the President attempted to ax Mr Mueller was false. But minutes later, he reversed his claim.

“At this hour the New York Times is trying to distract you,” Mr Hannity said on his programme, referring to the newspaper’s report on Thursday saying that Mr Trump ordered White House counsel Don McGahn to fire Mr Mueller last summer.

Fox News hosts defend Trump’s ‘s***hole countries’ comments

“They say Trump tried to fire Mueller, but our sources aren’t confirming that,” Mr Hannity added.

Seeming to take a page out of the President’s book, the news host then cast doubt on the credibility of the newspaper.

“And how many times has the New York Times and others gotten it wrong?” he said. Mr Trump has often labelled news coverage that he doesn’t like as “fake news”.

from about a dozen years back.

Something about how waterboarding is nothing for a big, strong he-man like Hannity.
