I'm watching A.M. Joy and they're talking about DACA. One of the guests said something to the effect that we also have hurricane relief on the table. Why do Democrats have to fight for hurricane relief? Are Republicans also not a/effected by hurricanes? Did I misunderstand what they were saying? I'd love some input for clarification....

SIX out of the first eight posts are correcting something that could easily be a typo or autocorrect, especially if someone is typing on a tablet or phone.

(54,506 posts)It's using a word that Republicans deliberately misuse as sort of a code that identifies them to each other.

(54,506 posts)Use a Republican trademark in your title, and your chances of getting your post taken seriously are severely diminished. You might as well start a post wondering whether or not "Crooked Hillary" really won the 2016 election. You're not starting out your post with a lot of prospects of getting a serious discussion by doing that. Using "Democrat" as an adjective is no less an indication of one's Republican leanings. If that indication is in error, then correct it. If not, let it stand, but accept the consequences.

(6,402 posts)The thing a lot of folks forget is the way that a whole lot of people just aren't that clued in to things like this. They make it a huge thing and it does run off people because it causes a whole lot of "why bother" aspects.
Hell, I'm sure I'm considered "low post count" by a lot even though I've been here since DU opened.

(1,660 posts)perhaps Republicans have trouble with it because it provides aid to a lot of brown people.
Case in point: Puerto Rico.

They don't care for dark people.
They are too busy telling everyone how Christian they are.
The republicans affected by hurricanes either have the funds/insurance to rebuild or they're dumb asses that would vote republican anyway.

That belief is half the reason that T___p responded to the hurricane in Puerto Rico with insults and paper towel throws.

(17,027 posts)Only poor people need hurricane relief. Rich people go live in their second home or stay at the club while the first one is getting repaired.
Those people living in homes and apartments that got wiped out should have had insurance. It's not the government's job to babysit their citizens.
If you're concerned donate to the Red Cross.
I think those are the main repub talking points on hurricane relief and why it ends up being something the dems have to fight for.

(8,108 posts)when the SCOTUS made the decision in favor of Bush over Gore. That's went I went from being just a voter to being active in politics. My original username was lindsey but because of a major computer crash a while back I simply wasn't able to reinstate so I had to change my username to upthevibe. I've never been one initiate a lot of original posts or even to reply a lot. However, I'm a big reader of the threads here and obtain a lot of valuable and important information.
I was on DU during 9/11, when the U.S. went into/invaded Iraq, when Bush was supposedly re-elected in '04 (and I remember that whole "Sorry Everybody" phenomena). I've celebrated with DU'ers when Barack Obama won and have been grieving due to this latest Presidential disaster. Further, I've been to meet-ups, volunteered, made contributions, sent letters, sent emails, made phone calls, knocked on doors, and registered voters all for the candidates who had a D next to their names/who were Democrats.
I know what MIHOP and LIHOP mean in regards to 9/11. I'm still furious with Ralph Nader because of what happened in Florida. I know what The Olive Garden means in the DU world.
I know that CaliforniaPeggy is revered here; that she's a Registered Nurse, that she starts her posts with "My Dear", and that she'll never forgive the Academy for giving the Oscar to Forrest Gump instead of The Shawshank Redemption. I remember when Big Bear John passed away....
And because I wrote Democrat (a member of the Democratic Party) instead of Democratic (relating to, or favoring democracy) in my original post I'm a suspect and that's a "red flag" - ESPECIALLY because I have a low post count.... I was actually trying to make a point in my OP. What I was trying to get across was why are Democrats the ones who have to fight for hurricane relief because disasters effect everyone. I guess I misspoke/miswrote...I normally go to the lounge anyway.....
