Is that not only could this country be so much better, she could be beautiful.
We have the resources. We have the ability to build a first class infrastructure. We have great people. We have the knowledge to develop the best health care system in the world. We have the ability to embrace diversity.
What we don't have however, is the will of a united people to obtain any of these things. We have been co-opted by a foreign power, and a large portion of this country has been brainwashed by years of right-wing talk radio and Fox News.
Brainwashed into...instead of being forward thinking, instead of having lofty goals, instead of recognizing the value of all human beings...a large and vocal portion of this country have been brainwashed into worrying about who is scamming SNAP benefits. Brainwashed into worrying who is here "illegally", without giving a thought to the positive contributions made by these illegal people. Brainwashed into thinking that MS-13 is a bigger problem than white men shooting up schools and concerts.
Brainwashed into thinking that a "tax break" will benefit them substantially. That police forces should have military-like weapons, and that there is not a problem with black people being killed in the streets by law enforcement. Brain washed into thinking that the brave men and women of the FBI are 100% bad people with ulterior motives.
I would go on, but you get the idea.
So what are we left with? Not only are we not a beautiful country setting a shining example to the rest of the world, but rather, we are simply fighting not to plunge into the depths of hell under this administration. That's all we are doing under Trump.
Fighting to keep afloat. It is debatable whether we will be able to keep from drowning. But even if we manage to do that, we will not be able to actually improve under Trump.
And that is the real shame here.

I think the problems run deeper than just who is POTUS.

(17,472 posts)whether Trump is president, or Obama is president. It is just more exaggerated under Trump.
Also, as I stated, if a large portion of the populace has chosen what meaningless issues are important to them, then it's not going to get done.
