It might be that he has an appointment lined up with the Trump administration.

which would give him a "permanent" position vs an "at the pleasure of the President" position.

and was an Asst. U.S. Attorney at one point, so I am thinking they may be considering appointing him to one of many judicial vacancies (lifetime teabagger appointment).

but it sucks nonetheless.

roll him in under a pile of other judicial appointments vs a more high-profile Executive Branch position.
