Democratic response to SOTU gets over 10 million views on FB!

He’s got more Facebook followers than most senators. And he’s left a trail of viral videos that have been watched by millions.

Massachusetts Rep. Joe Kennedy III might not cut a high-profile yet in Washington, but his stature is growing among Democratic grassroots activists outside D.C.

The three-term congressman — who’s slated to deliver his party’s response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech Tuesday — features in scores of YouTube and Facebook videos, where clips of his remarks and floor speeches have spread like wildfire among progressives.

One of the most popular is from a March committee hearing where Kennedy, citing Scripture, called the GOP health care bill an act of malice, saying “There is no mercy in a system that makes health care a luxury.” That video, posted on his official Facebook page, drew more than 10 million views and nearly a quarter-million shares.

'Course trump will say he had more.. he even took credit for President Obama's successes during his terms.

Anybody that doesn't mention that in a review of his sotu is not being honest.

And gives me so much hope for the upcoming elections.

I hope all those people that have never voted/thought their vote didn't count all finally realize that you need to get out there and vote or you end up with what we have now.

It is like they are all children (since mentally they behave that way sometimes) that didn't follow the rules and now we all have to pay the price for their bad behavior.

Another Facebook video, featuring him grilling GOP staffers at the same hearing over cuts to mental health and addiction services, attracted 4.9 million views. A separate floor speech decrying “a worldview that scapegoats the struggling and suffering” got 3 million views on his own page and another 5.9 million on the page of the liberal group CREDO Mobile.

The sharp, crisp and direct criticisms of the Trump administration, delivered with slow-burning intensity, have also burnished Kennedy's reputation among his congressional colleagues.

.....................

Joe Kennedy III is one of the faces of the future. Bravo, Joe.

if those who want to savage him for being "born to the 1%" don't find a way to submarine him.

He certainly seems to threaten many on the left, for some reason.

just so they can bash them, and much of it is petty and superficial. I wonder what their agenda is since it clearly isn't electing Democrats.

endless frustration because they never manage to accomplish either? And of course there are the agents who come wherever malcontents gather to fan their flames.

As for their not liking Joe, they apparently didn't need a WaPo poll to tell them what was happening when the names of nonradical Sanders' DUers started showing up in those "Oh, Joe!" threads.

Enough to turn me into a smiling Joe accepter if not fan. Another decade of developing some "chops" would be great. But looking at his accelerated resume building trajectory, who doesn't suspect he has to be looking squarely at 2020? If another Democrat won in 2020 and 2024, 2028 of course would probably see a Republican president, and likely 2032, which would bring us to 2036, 18 years down the road. 2020.

Bet Kamala Harris isn't smiling, but wouldn't her mature toughness look good alongside his boyish "Irishness" as his fans here are calling it?

well said.

I agree that he could use more experience before considering a run for POTUS, but then I thought the same about Obama and he turned out great, so what do I know?

I'm a great Obama admirer.

Whatever Joe accomplishes in future, Obama's resume was far more substantive and achievements far more impressive at this point. Of course, as you say, he did spend more years getting to it. He wasn't exactly born on fourth base, and the extremely different paths by which he and Joe arrived in the Senate would offer very different experiences and challenges.

My comment wasn't a comparison between the two, but a mea culpa about my own initial opinion that Obama needed more experience when he announced that he was running for POTUS. I am very happy to have been proven wrong!

That was a good primary, two excellent possibilities to be happy and proud of. We'll get there again. Just imagine the state of our nation now if we could have followed Obama's terms with Hillary's.

As for the resentful anti-establishment types who've already identified a big Democratic threat they have to take out, the big happy responses to Joe 3 already show they're going to fail. That's what I like best about him, so nice to see a wave of real hope and enthusiasm threaten to swamp that whiny dispirited negativism.
