Mitch McConnell breaks from Donald Trump on tariffs

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell joined the calls of his congressional colleagues in asking President Donald Trump to reconsider a fresh round of tariffs levied against US allies in Mexico, Canada and the European Union.

"I hope we pull back from the brink here because these tariffs will not be good for the economy, and I worry that it will slow, if not impeded significantly, the progress we were making economically for the country," he said.

McConnell added that he hopes it ends soon and that he is "not happy about the prospects of a trade war."

The comments came during an economic conference in his home state of Kentucky. McConnell pointed to the impacts that a trade war might have on local employer Toyota and on Kentucky farmers.

Ditch Mitch, his wife is a member of rump's team. This may be to give the dummy room to quietly reverse any talk of Chinese sanctions and the resulting loss of revenue for Mitch. I don't want to know what filth goes on in Mitch's chamber.

Don’t expect him to, but he can rein trump in. If not, it’s bad for you too, don’t you think?

over Decades particularly with China and Asia; losing many industries as a result of it, can you describe Your Plan on remedying this secular trade imbalance? I mean something other than: Oh Yes, Let's Triple Down on this Insanity with TPP!

I think we went through this debate numerous times before the primaries were over.

We’ve taken more than our fair share of the world’s resources and wealth. Now is not the time to leave early after we’ve cleaned the table. To help “workers,” tax the hell out of those who’ve accumulated the wealth. But withdrawing from the world, hoping for utopia trading among ourselves, is folly, whether trump or Sanders are uncouraging it.

You are full of questions, so here is one for you — Did you support Clinton when it counted, even though she didn’t share trump and Sander’s desire to renege on trade deal and impose tariffs?

Our export profile is similar to 3rd world nations. We export our natural resources and agriculture products and import finished goods, largely on credit. That does not sound like Trading except as Trading Places which seems to be Your Platform.

Try Selling That to the Electorate in the Next Election. I'd love to hear your Globalist Wing of the party explaining to the American Public that we had it too good for too long and it is time to ship away whatever industrial wealth is left in this country in the name of "Global Responsibilities".. whatever the hell that means. Might be a tough sell Hoyt.

Oh and Hillary. A few of us warned more than a few of you about that one. Glad you brought up her global views on trade up. That was a big factor in her demise, along with her inability to articulate any strong reason to vote for her other than being experienced.
