I'm watching groundbreaking socialist liberal propaganda on Netflix.

The Andy Griffith Show. Have you seen it yet? My god.

Yes, not a black person in sight. And certain episodes haven't aged well.

But the wisdom, the delicacy of thought and emotional intelligence in other episodes --

Astounding. Absolutely the best parts of down-to-earth America. Plain and simple love. True heartfulness.

Brilliant writing. This show will be played in space. It should be required watching for all Americans. I know my kids loved it, still talk about it.

Andy Griffith -- wherever you are, sir, I salute you.

And I wish you were real.

And the music! Holy cow!

As you mentioned not a person of color in sight but I think that reflects tv in the early 1960s. On the upside at least it avoided the painful stereotypes of the “help” prevalent in other shows and films of that era.

Talk about not aging well. Song of the South comes to mind. Disney has never made it available on home video formats. I remember seeing it in a double feature with a new Disney release called “Condor Man” around 1981, and even 9 year old me could see that it was offensive and ridiculous.

The right can't define socialism.it equates it to Venezuala and China, neither of which are socialist countries because - guess what - there's never been a socialist country. When dictators and conmen use words it's a fool that just believes them eg. North Korea claims to be a Republic. Using that definion America must be a dictatorship, because it too claims to be. Republic. Etc.

Americans are known globally to not understand the word socialism and communism. In fact Wikipedia even has a page explaining that Americans can't define th word socialism.

So don't be confused by the right OR the left in America.

Google socialism, learn what it means, and then decide for YOURSELF, if it's liberal or not.

a basic personality type with distinctive characteristics, conservative the other. If anyone wants to discuss liberalism, liberal democracy or conservative economic policy, say, that has to be identified further.

Socialism is a form of social organization (that can be run by liberal or conservative leaders, but the latter have a way of corrupting and putting it under authoritarian control if not stopped).

There not only can be, and is, such a thing as liberal socialism because socialist systems can be based on on liberal principles. Successful liberal partial socialist systems in Scandinavia should not be confused with failed socialist dictatorships elsewhere.

Btw. in spite of what right-wing propaganda is pushing big time, there is no such thing as liberal fascism, because liberal personality and liberalism are incompatible with fascism. Fascism is an authoritarian archconservative philosophy, whether the government form is "left" (production officially owned by the people) or "right" (privately owned).

As one prominent fascist put it,"Fascism is the state, liberalism is the individual." Benito Mussolini

And I'm damned well pleased when someone calls me a radical environmentalist or some kind of Luddite.

This thing we currently call "economic productivity" is not productivity at all, it's a direct measure of the damage we are doing to whatever's left of the earth's natural environment and our own human spirit.

If we were smart we'd be paying people to experiment with lifestyles having small environmental footprints. People with high energy industrial consumer lifestyles might look over at people successfully living with less and say, "Whoa, why are those tofu eaters happy and I'm not?"

Do people *need* automobiles to be happy? Do people *need* factory farm meat? Do people *need* a giant house with 200 amp electrical service and central air conditioning?

Simply saying it as such doesn't make your case. Lay out for us the objective evidence which supports your premise.

Otherwise, I'm under the impression you are unaware of either definition. And by reading the relevant historical and political texts in existence, you can easily and conveniently rectify your dramatic lack of knowledge as it applies to both words.

Good luck!

Or, you can simply go the mentally lazy route, and allege you're right and everyone else is wrong.

I'm betting on a variation of the latter option.

Still makes me laugh my ass off after nearly 60 years.

Lately I've been obsessed with that other pinko liberal show from the late 1950s, Have Gun - Will Travel--about a highly educated, Shakespeare-quoting, racially tolerant San Franciscan gunfighter.

YouTube has a lot of the episodes. I just found out that our local library has the DVDs available for loaning.

Amazon has the DVDs for sale at about 10 dollars a season. You can't even get into a single movie for that price. Treat yourself and buy a season of Have Gun - Will Travel. You won't regret it.

I mean, for the time it was made. You could not make a TV show these days about a main character who is educated and cultured and tolerant of others, but who is still "tough". Those other qualities are not acceptable now. Richard Boone pulled it all off.

Gene Roddenberry was one of the writers for this show. He enfolded a lot of his ideas into Star Trek.

I've seen every episode more times than I can count. To hear Ron Howard describe his time on the show, it sounded like a really positive environment and Andy was like a 2nd father.

Andy managed to write music into the show whenever he could. It was a show quite unlike any other.

...unless "Crocodile Hunter" was on. Except late one night, I was, for some reason, watching one of those "nostalgia" channels. And Andy Griffith came on. The dog watched the entire show. It wasn't my choice for the night, but he was smiling and doing his dog "laugh" and loved it so much I couldn't bear to change the channel.

I had to start watching it to see what the dog was seeing in it.
