(8,134 posts)how he would have charged onto Omaha Beach, even without a weapon.
You know, the same way he'd take down a school shooter, bare handed.

On June 6, 1944, 160,000+ Allied troops landed at #Normandy, a heavily fortified stretch of French coastline to initiate #DDay. More than 10,000 Allied soldiers were killed or wounded, but by day's end, the Allies had begun liberating Europe. #DDay74 #TodayinHistory

Interesting:
....
The Allies failed to achieve any of their goals on the first day. Carentan, St. Lô, and Bayeux remained in German hands, and Caen, a major objective, was not captured until 21 July. Only two of the beaches (Juno and Gold) were linked on the first day, and all five beachheads were not connected until 12 June; however, the operation gained a foothold which the Allies gradually expanded over the coming months. German casualties on D-Day have been estimated at 4,000 to 9,000 men. Allied casualties were at least 10,000, with 4,414 confirmed dead.

(937 posts)The brave men and boys who stormed Omaha beach should inspire all of us. The willingness to sacrifice their lives on the alter of liberty saved the world from tyranny. I walk and knock and talk to voters about the midterms because we are again faced with tyranny. Evil flourishes when good people do nothing. Do not get discouraged, never stop fighting, never give up. It is now our fight and we must win. Glory Glory Hallelujah!!
