Secret recording stuns GOP front runner for Georgia governor

ATLANTA The Republican front-runner in the Georgia governors race said in a secretly recorded conversation that he pushed and helped pass an education measure he considered bad public policy in order to deprive a political rival of campaign support.
In the recording obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and WSB-TV , Republican Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle says his decision to support raising tax credits for private school scholarships aint about public policy. Its about (expletive) politics.

Even in the reddest districts, DEMS should post a candidate. Because of their current nature of corruption, the GOP will often eat themselves alive with scandals like this.

(8,292 posts)in AZ. I doubt it will turn blue. In Maricopa county (Phoenix), there are millions of red state voters that won't switch. At. All.

(10,281 posts)It USED to be Blue. And right now, it's the GOPs California. If we can find a way to flip it, they're DONE they'll be reduced to a regional party.
I can only hope=)

(10,721 posts)...if they are able to turn OH, WI and some other formerly blue or purple states solidly red, they can somewhat mitigate the loss of TX. However, there will come a point when the Republican Party (as it is right now) will not be able to win a national election. In the meantime, they have Russia, voter suppression and an irresponsible media keeping them alive.

(20,257 posts)But all the cities are blue and the Dems have gotten over 40% of the vote in the last 3 elections. We only need to swing about 6% of the total votes to Dems and we will be blue again.

(59,511 posts)The Vt Democratic party wanted him on their ballot and he will be -- and he will win. He will win for the same reason any popular incumbent would win. He will get the votes. He caucuses with the Democrats and with about two dozen Democratic seats up, why do you want the Democrats to spend a lot of money to challenge him ... and lose?
A Democrat can file the paperwork and run against him in the primary. If that Democrat wins, she/he will be on the ballot on the Democratic line.

(26,677 posts)in redneckistan we have Dems running for every county position. I was told by a DUer that candidates cant win local elections without being in step with the majority of the community and maybe thats true to a point, but we sure as hell cant win if we dont run. And if we run we just might convince more voters to agree with us.

Republican Party.
.... entrapping individuals is less than honorable and ethical, Miller told The Times and his character should be measured accordingly. ... Meanwhile, ... Hill said in a statement. I worked hard ... to advance conservative reforms like school choice ... Its sad to see those same policies being sold to benefit a career politicians political ambitions. ... Sen. Butch Miller, a supporter of Cagle and the president pro tem of the state Senate, called into question the ethics of Tippins ...
As it happens, of course, we do have a very good candidate for governor of Georgia and are kind of proud of her. What a shame Cagle isn't the Repub candidate yet, but only in the middle of a nasty runoff race for the nomination.
If our candidate, Stacey Abrams does win, still a long shot but maybe a tad shorter, she will be the first woman governor in Georgia and the first black woman governor in the nation. But she's already made history by coming this far.

(58,785 posts)the nasty Republican runoff, which leaves her free to make herself more widely known while this kind of stuff goes on on the right. The polls suggest she is looking real good in comparison, and not just to Democrats.
