With people like Katie Arrington, Adam Laxalt and Corey Stewart winning their respective Republican primaries (while incumbent Barbara Comstock had to fend off a RWNJ) tonight, it's become even clearer that the Trump base is the Republican base.
Trump's net approval rating among Republicans is +72, averaged across several polls. That's extremely high, so it's no wonder Republicans who want to stay in office aren't speaking out against him.
I just hope enough people see fit to vote for Democrats in November. Because if they don't, Congress is going to be even more unhinged than it already is.

(15,394 posts)In Wisconsin in an area that was heavy Trump. The losing republican, along with being anti-abortion, was also anti-hormonal contraception and wanted the ob-gyn program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to lose accreditation at a time when Wisconsin needs more ob-gyns. He's a creepy-as-fuck-looking SOB as well. I'm glad he lost, but I wish it had been more than the 52-48 result that I last saw.
I don't know how much he embraced Trump - probably is a fan, but I think Trump is sliming all republicans regardless.

(10,721 posts)...that I'm hopeful we will have a good November. It comes down to turnout and how successful Republicans are at voter suppression.
But, yeah, it's disheartening to see deplorables get so many votes.

(22,919 posts)Trump just solidified his grip over Congressional Republicans who are now even more terrified of bucking him.

The November election couldn't be more important.

(4,238 posts)I live in CA-10, a district that was a few votes shy of nearly being shutout of the congressional election. We marched, we canvassed, we organized. I had never seen this community so engaged. The Blue Wave is coming! Yeah, didn't happen. In addition to the close congressional race, we lost nearly all the local races. Republicans, both pro- and anti-trump, will come out and vote in November. We can't take anything for granted.

(4,238 posts)And in the end, Denham in Skinny Jeans won. But voter turnout was 20%. The combined numbers for the two republicans was more than our six combined. Let's hope the DCCC pays attention and pours some resources into our district, or it's going to be really hard to flip that seat.
