So far, NK has already committed to denuclearization 13 times. But Trump's #14 is "historic". (Original Post) DetlefK Jun 2018 OP

Never before was NK made to feel so important and validated on a world stage during these types of negotiations.

Trump met personally with Kim, conferring a legitimacy on Kim's dictatorship that his family has craved for generations. With no conditions, not even a worthless promise to respect human rights, Kim got to strut on the world stage with the man currently occupying the position generally regarded as Leader of the Free World. Kim walked out with an agreement that doesn't require him to do anything, doesn't penalize him if he reneges, and gives him the appearance of a co-equal with the President of the United States.

In terms of our relations with our allies, it's an historic blunder, the kind of unforced diplomatic error that won't be remediable for years, if ever. Our standing in the community of nations has taken a tremendous hit, and our allies should know that now and for some time to come an American promise is worthless, our word is not our bond.
