General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDear M$Greedia -in particular CNN and NBC - have you lost your
collective fucking minds?
The President of the United States just stated overseas in a country where there is no press freedom that the press - especially you two - 'is the enemy of the people'.
Are you so fucking clueless that you continue covering him as if it's just another day. He and his enablers are the enemies of democracy.
At what fucking point will you take off the gloves and help LOCK HIM THE FUCK UP?
His entire life should be repeated over and over and over - every fucking crooked thing associated with him - over and fucking over all fucking day and night in some form.
Across the screen you should blast - now you know why he thinks we're the enemy of the people. Please note that 'the people' only means himself and no one else.
What the fuck is wrong with you people?

(82,849 posts)Do the media moguls think Trump is just joking around? On more than one occasion, he's called the free press the enemy of America. He's said that he is the only one who can save America. His most fanatical followers marched and chanted about "blood and soil" while killing a woman who got in their way. This past weekend, two of Trump's partisans commented on the G-7 conference using the ominous phrase "stab in the back."
If you've ever wondered about Martin Niemoller's aphorism about "First they came for . . ." and if it could happen in the United States, it's happening. The popular media, meanwhile, just copy it all down with nary a qualm.

Three types of American media:
1. truth seeking journalism (WaPo, New Yorker, Vox, TPM, John Oliver, most individual journalists)
2. profit-first infotainment (CNN, MSNBC, most tv news)
3. Republican propaganda media (Fox Limbaugh, WSJ, Daily Caller, IJR, Sinclair, Levin, Breitbart, NY Post etc)

I think this is a useful classification- thoughts?

(5,164 posts)There are a few but most are normalizing... if they didn't do it to stop him during the campaign it will not happen, they are making money off him still. I guess the print is slightly better. Just wondering how all of this is going to end?

(11,285 posts)by hamstringing and threatening to prosecute a democratically elected politician who was (at least nominally) more on the side of average people than the presidents before and after him. Added to the fact that he didn't do anything illegal. And before you say he committed perjury, that only applies for questions that are relevant to the case at hand. Which I don't agree applied in his case.
Do you see the difference, and why "most of us cursed them for it"? it was another case of protecting and rich and powerful, and hounding anyone who might stick up for the weak.
This is also why Trump is being protected and cushioned against the harsh media criticism he deserves. And also why we, again, curse the media for it.

(4,858 posts)...at some point, the free press in a democracy has to say that, indeed, liberal democracy is a good thing, and an "administration" that is more and more veering towards open fascism is a bad thing. Especially if the "president" openly attacks THEM as the "biggest threat facing our country". This doesn't mean they "agree" with me on every issue. It certainly does mean that they're helping defend democracy openly, and without apology, against people who want to destroy it. I fail to see how anyone at DU could find this controversial.

(11,285 posts)the media's job is or should be a bottom's up view of the powerful in our society. It's become completely top down.
