Trump eventually will go. It is his supporters that scare me

There were always people who felt they were left behind, and would not or could not try to pull themselves together.

But Trump brought them out into the open, and embolden them.

We watched the third installment of the Fourth Estate - about the NYT covering the news since January 2017.

I did not follow that closely but a reporter went to visit a family that benefited from a certain program that helped them fix their house. The reporter observed that every single window was replaced - a job that they could never do on their income. But this program is (was?) going to be cut or eliminated by Trump.

But, they love him. He brought them out after they felt they were left behind.

These people will not go away. In most cases, they are armed and once the Democrats take control of congress and the white house they will feel that they have nothing to lose.

Another reported interviewed Bannon - after he left the white house, I think. And Bannon was talking about taking control of the House, of the Senate, of the Supreme Court - was really frightening.

that can unite these people like Dump can. Dump was the "perfect storm" in a manner of speaking. Though these people may not go away, but they may not be as enthusiastic without Dump.

Here's the link - https://www.nybooks.com/articles/2018/06/28/hitlers-rise-it-can-happen-here/

These are the final two paragraphs:

With our system of checks and balances, full-blown authoritarianism is unlikely to happen here, but it would be foolish to ignore the risks that Trump and his administration pose to established norms and institutions, which help preserve both order and liberty. Those risks will grow if opposition to violations of long-standing norms is limited to Democrats, and if Republicans laugh, applaud, agree with, or make excuses for Trump—if they howl with the wolf.

In their different ways, Mayer, Haffner, and Jarausch show how habituation, confusion, distraction, self-interest, fear, rationalization, and a sense of personal powerlessness make terrible things possible. They call attention to the importance of individual actions of conscience both small and large, by people who never make it into the history books. Nearly two centuries ago, James Madison warned: “Is there no virtue among us? If there be not, we are in a wretched situation. No theoretical checks—no form of government can render us secure.” Haffner offered something like a corollary, which is that the ultimate safeguard against aspiring authoritarians, and wolves of all kinds, lies in individual conscience: in “decisions taken individually and almost unconsciously by the population at large.”

4. Democratic Leaders Must Stand Up!
Mon Jun 18, 2018, 03:34 AM

trumpy will go know where if the democratic leaders remain silent and passive. We need voices shouting loud and clear every single day against the foul stench that is the new republican party. If the democrats continue to remain timid and not challenge trumpy then I'm afraid the left will be unable to rally and take back the seats needed to regain control. We need strong leaders with strong voices and we need them now.

Oh brother! Democrats aren't sitting down in silence!

democratic leaders remain silent and passive
GMAFB! Democratic leaders aren't doing that!

democrats continue to remain timid and not challenge trumpy
Jesus! Democrats aren't timid! WTF are you talking about?

We need strong leaders with strong voices and we need them now
So, you're trying to make us believe that Democrats are doing nothing? Are you suggesting that our Democratic leaders are just silently watching and twiddling their thumbs?

Stop it! Just... stop it! Stop smearing Democrats, the Democratic leadership and the Democratic party!

Yes, that is what I an saying. We are peppered daily with Alt Right talking heads constantly pushing their agenda and lies. Tell me one strong voice pushing back daily from the democratic party. Show me who these people are. Please, show me. If you think tweets and yahoo feedback are doing the job you best think again. We need faces on the daily news every single day pushing back hard against this Alt Right nonsense. DAILY! When we are silent we lose.

The left need a wake up call, and from the responses here I know I am right. You people are fooling yourselves if you think we have strong leaders bringing the fight to trumpy.

I'll wait patiently for the names of these strong democrats who are challenging the president daily and bringing their agenda to the American people. Please post proof and facts only. I know I haven't seen it.

Dictators cannot survive with adulation, its oxygen to them, take that away and he withers and dies like a vampire in daylight.

Give him no quarter, the media must starve him of an outlet, Dem politicians must not praise him in anyway.

Shame shame and more shame is the key.

10. I've known for probably 15 years or so that something like Trumpism was coming
Mon Jun 18, 2018, 03:25 PM
Jun 2018

I didn't know what form it'd take, exactly, and I didn't know that it'd BE Trump, exactly, but I knew it was coming, and I knew it'd be ugly. You know how I knew? I was paying attention when the Census Bureau released their population estimates after the 2000 Census. And I can tell you with absolute certainty that this isn't about people who feel "left behind". This is what happens when demographic changes lead to a country built on a foundation of white supremacy having a non-white majority population. "Left behind", "economic anxiety"? Those are just code words for "racists".
