George Takei: Trump border policy worse than Japanese internment camps
Actor George Takei says the Trump administrations zero tolerance border policy that is separating migrant kids from their parents is worse than his experience in a Japanese internment camp.
At least during the internment of Japanese-Americans, I and other children were not stripped from our parents. We were not pulled screaming from our mothers arms. We were not left to change the diapers of younger children by ourselves, Takei writes in an article for Foreign Policy magazine published Tuesday.
The Star Trek star, who was incarcerated as a young boy alongside some 120,000 other people after Japans attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II, says he cant even imagine what his childhood wouldve been like if hed been locked up alone.
That this is happening today fills me with both rage and grief: rage toward a failed political leadership who appear to have lost even their most basic humanity, and a profound grief for the families affected, he writes.
