The GOP has been damaging and sabotaging the country even before Reagan. Reagan put their destruction on the fast track. I just don't get it. I do not understand how they got this far.

(9,897 posts)20% of this country is "centrist", which in all honesty means they vote for whoever seems to have the best chance to win or the most resonant populist 'message' (policies be damned)...
The right wing has been exposed as amoral power monsters...they seek only control and at ANY cost or consequence.
That's "How"...the "why" is even easier....because they are infected with greed for more of all things than they can ever use and less for everyone else on the wrong "team" or "color"...

(10,116 posts)I'm back to being a major pessimist with no hope. Reagan had Iran Contra and established a whole new generation of life long Republicans. W, the endless war in Iraq and tanked the economy. That party gets in power again and starts implementing the exact policies that screwed the economy. I could go on and on, but preaching to the choir.

(10,602 posts)They can disrupt Congress and go ballistic, but the lame stream media would eat them alive. It is up to the public to put the pressure on, but we seem to have a lot of Americans Who support this policy.

(10,602 posts)Even though most American appose this policy I wonder if they will change it. There are a lot of progressive policies that Americans support but the GOP has gone in the opposite direction. People want health care but the GOP is still taking it away.

(3,479 posts)pretty much every issue, yet here we are. You make a good point.
There's something so vulgar, despicable, and EVIL about this policy, that something will have to give, and give quickly. It could get ugly though.
