I know a lot of people believe in a redemption that washes everything clean but there are some things that people should never forget - abuses and atrocities so horrible it is a danger to forget. Some dirt never washes off. That doesn't mean America has to wallow in its guilt but it does mean America has that guilt and should never pretend otherwise. It's part of not forgetting. Remembering always what our government is capable of - just how low it will go.

When abuses and atrocities like this happen it doesn't just affect a few people. It becomes a part of all of us. No, we don't feel what the victims are feeling and we are not experiencing what the victims are experiencing but that doesn't mean we aren't in pain as well. We hurt for the victims. We hurt because of what is being done to people.

I know you're hurting uppityperson. That's the way you are built - you care and care deeply.



I'm hurting too. I wish I knew how to make it stop because it won't stop even when the abuses stop. Because some pain never does. It goes too deep.
