There's something else going on. I can feel it.

This border policy is horrific to be sure.

But the administration is actually letting it stay in the news cycle anyway. Which leads me to believe that this is a smoke-screen for something even more horrendous.

My guy tells me to stop being so negative, but every time I think things couldn't get any worse, they do.

I can't even begin to venture to guess what is so terrible that this Administration would let the press, the public, the clergy, etc, keep hammering this point in order to keep the focus off of something else.

The OP overestimates Trump's ability to control the press on this. There's been talk that he's going to fire Mueller. Guessing that's about the only thing, short of having the military invade Canada or nuking Iran, that could divert a fair share of attention from Trump's persecution of children for political advantage.

It is conspiracy, stupidity and real evil. These people don't care, they are haters and they will stop at nothing to continue enriching themselves while causing pain to everyone else.

How is it possible that the lack of decency from republicans can go along with an evil liar? How can they go to bed with what is going on? I ask myself those questions and then I remember that the criminal mind works in very different ways, and for most people it is hard to understand, but a criminal will kill someone, then an hour later he may be in a pub drinking with his bodies as if nothing happened, the criminal mind in government works the same, only that the consequences are huge. The criminal mind does not have a concept of consequences, that is trump's worst character flow, that is why he is so lacking of empathy.

I have been wondering that if the press starts "following the money" on what is happening with the kids, I wonder if trump's little hands may be trying to enrich from this horrible exercise, and maybe their kids are involved in it too.

The question of why are republicans in power so quiet?

trump is the mafia, and the modus operandi of the mafia is to get you involved in their crimes and that is how they tie your hands, you become an accomplice, they force you to go with their plans and shut your mouth. That is my take on all of this...Ryan, McConnell are implicated, they were part of the conspiracy with the Russians, their hands are tied and they must comply with the whims of the man-child. What a hateful SOB trump is...

That was something that I think it was Willie Geist brought up on Morning Joe today in that to Trump and others like Miller, Bannon, et al, they view the images being shown as how they're strong.

They employed the same strategy with Syrian refugees seeking asylum.

It's no different here, just that those coming across are being stopped at the border as opposed to airports and the like in limited numbers.

They are, quite plainly, showing us who they are once again.

I think a full plan of more hate is afoot and this story broke earlier than the administration wanted it to. The calling up of immigration court staff next month has something to do with it. I think they were planning an enormous mass deportation in the next two months and were going to sell it bigly. I think that was their timing. They are now trapped in a box. This broke when they didn't want it to. I fully believe they had plans to campaign on next months mass deportations.

This is classic authoritarinism and trump is a classic authoritarian.

It is trump's modus operandi and his raison d'etre to figure out "How far can I go?" "How much red meat can I throw to the base without political backlash that hurts me overall?"

He must maintain and, if possible, expand his base. He is always working that edge. That is what he has always done and he keeps doing it because it has always worked for him.

What is going on all the time is trump trying to consolidate and increase his power, which translates into money.

That is also what most politicians are doing.

I am picturing tanks on the streets. Preceded by ICE beating up demonstrators.

But in the meantime, in the House, bills are being introduced to cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

We must stay alert to so many rings in this circus.

the administration (and the country) is at the mercy of an unhinged and delusional narcissist. There isn't a deeper explanation there, they're not playing 4d chess; Trump's monstrous ego won't let him back down.

One of his paymasters, the Saudis are currently invading Yemen...not surprisingly, very little news coverage. Then there's his paymaster Vladimir Putin who is currently engaged in a multi-faceted attack on Ukraine, NATO and the G7. Not much coverage there, either. Be prepared for escalation in any of these areas, or even additional moves in Syria in support of Assad.

that something unthinkable is brewing. I have even looked for escape routes. I told my husband I thought we should sell our property (two houses) and search for another country. I started looking at strategies of how one goes for long stays in say France or Italy. We’ve been to both places for short vacations and liked both. But not sure how you stay longer. I know you can stay for 90 days before you need to do something else to legally stay. However, It may be too late to do things like sell property. 😩

The situation is the US is building to something we had not imagined could happen, although others among us have been warning us. tRump (and his minions) are working overtime to accomplish their goals. Up next? Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. If they start to mess around with those, those who are asleep will get a rude awakening. If they dismantle those programs, a lot of people will be rendered destitute overnight. I cannot imagine what they will do. Those of us with a few resources will still be facing huge financial burdens if our base incomes get gutted.

Keep your eye on the ball, people. Something wicked this way comes. 😢

Who knows what the criminal Trump administration will do.

They are stealing babies and locking them up in concentration camps even as we speak!

Not a coincidence that he's been palling around with dictators, openly drooling at their ability to murder their own people without so much as a peep from those he has absolute control over.

Everything is going on. This looks to be the summer of discontent. When all of the songs of the sixties make sense you will know where you're at.

Do you think all these ghouls that had to hide in the woodwork will at this time will just be sitting back and watching at this time when they know this IS their time? I expect the worst of these right-wing folks and the hatred they harbor. They are working each other into a lather, figure it out

Certainly wouldn't put it past them to be planning something even more horrendous.

That said, it's possible they've overshot this -- that they've just simply messed up (I'm talking the politics, not the actual which of course is way beyond messed up).

I feel a sense of inevitability.

What I mean is this: I knew it was going to be bad, but in the beginning I actually used to wake in the morning thinking, "Did Mr. Trump do (say/tweet) something stupid or terrible?"

Now I wake up and say, "What stupid (or terrible) thing did Mr. Trump do (say/tweet)?"

It's as if his consistency keeps me from panicking. There's no element of surprise. I think if I thought I could be surprised, then I might panic.
