Borders are a social construct, and we need to liberate ourselves from oppressive social constructs ck4829 Jun 2018 #1
Along those lines, we actually used to have open borders marylandblue Jun 2018 #2
I would add a couple more options that don't conflict with others: yurbud Jun 2018 #3

In the same way racial categorization, a gender binary, and class is used to oppress people; borders are being used in the same way.

Open borders shouldn't be used as a smear.

And we didn't change it until too many Chinese started coming. Before that, there were too many Irish, too many Germans. Later, too many Italians and too many Jews. So closing borders has always been about racial policy.

Punish employers more severely than undocumented workers. A night in jail would make a big impression on a farmer or corporate exec. If you cut off the supply of jobs, eventually fewer will come since there won't be anything to come for.

Even cheaper and more humane:

Change our foreign policy, so they can elect leaders who will raise wages and enact other reforms that make life in their home country tolerable without fear that the CIA will remove those leaders or we won't give some general the wink or nod for a coup.

We spend billions crushing the dreams of people in other countries for a better life to make richer rich assholes who own plantations, sweatshops, mines, or oil wells.
