Trump-Backed Candidate Arrington, Who Beat Sanford, Is Seriously Hurt in Car Accident

Katie Arrington, a candidate for Congress in South Carolina who earlier this month defeated Rep. Mark Sanford in the state’s Republican primary, was seriously injured in a car accident on Friday night, according to posts on her social media account.

Ms. Arrington was traveling with a friend on state highway 17 when their vehicle was struck by a car going the wrong way.

Ms. Arrington, who was a passenger at the time of the crash, “sustained a fracture in her back and several broken ribs, as well as injuries that required [her] to undergo major surgery including the removal of a portion of her small intestine and a portion of her colon,” a post on her Facebook page said. An artery in her legs also collapsed, the post said, and she will require additional surgeries and remain hospitalized for two weeks....more

his campaign out of respect for her recovery.

"Just hearing about the terrible accident that occurred overnight involving Katie Arrington. Amanda and I are lifting her and her family up in prayer right now. Please join us," Cunningham wrote on Twitter. "We are suspending all campaign activities until further notice."

Cunningham's campaign did not immediately return CNN's request for comment ...
