President Trumps former deputy campaign manager, David Bossie, told a black Democratic strategist appearing on Fox & Friends on Sunday that hes out of his cotton-picking mind.
Bossie and strategist Joel Payne got into a heated exchange about the rhetoric used in debating immigration and other issues during a discussion moderated by Fox News host Ed Henry.
The men were discussing former CIA director Michael Hayden posting a photo of Auschwitz in reference to the Trump administrations since-ended policy of separating immigrant families at the border when Bossie made the comment.

(52,503 posts)it doesn't take half a second of thought and a dim familiarity with american history to realize that there's no way it's not a racist insult.

(7,756 posts)picked cotton. They all used it all the time and so did we as kids and it was not the least bit racist, just a silly saying. You can take it that way if you choose but it's not generally considered a racist insult.

(2,064 posts)It had no racial connotations.
The way I heard it used way usually one white person talking to another.
Its a rural phrase that avoids swearing.
Its like Are you out of your freaking mind?

(2,064 posts)The usage wasnt used in any racist manner when I was growing up in NC in the early 60s.
It was something whites said to other whites. I heard plenty of racial slurs growing up, but never heard that phrase used that way.
Its just a country manner of speaking.
Youre welcome to your opinion, but claiming this term is racist is quite a stretch.

(13,205 posts)I didn't hear the racism in it until I finally did. It was just a standard euphemism for "more serious" cussing. The fact that this Trump Deputy Campaign Manager didn't pick up on it is pretty telling. A lot of Fox News "consumers" probably learned something here.

They also ate pretty exclusivity what is today called Soul Food.
According to Mother no farm chore was more mindless than picking cotton. Its white, pick it. Even hoeing crops you had to be careful not to cut the crop be it cotton, pole beans or corn.
Nothing racist about it.
Dont care about what someone who does not know anyone who has ever picked cotton thinks.
