(46,786 posts)It was the brits, ex-pats and a few American members against all the "foreigners" that kept cross-posting in the newsgroup. Great debates, with great minds. And Livesey came up with the rule, that if you had to use Hitler to push your argument, you automatically lost the argument.

(58,797 posts)It was that as any internet discussion proceeds over time, the probability of comparisons to Hitler approaches unity.
People used that to declare discussions over when Hitlerian comparisons were brought up. Since the corollaries between current politics and the 1930's increase, Godwin sort of blessed the idea of making the comparison.

Fact is, we are much farther along in the process than we realize.

We, of the internet, can and should freely discuss Hitler, because what he did, Trump can do. All it takes is silence.
