Michael E. Capuano, a 10-term Democratic congressman from Boston, says hes always delivered for the folks back home, but right now theres an even higher priority: stopping Donald Trump.
Thats why I voted twice to begin impeachment proceedings, Capuano states in a reelection ad. But Jacky Rosen, a freshman Democratic congresswoman from Las Vegas, says shes waiting for special counsel Robert S. Mueller III to complete his investigation of President Trump and his associates before supporting such a drastic step.
Thats what Id like to focus on first, said Rosen, whos hoping to snatch Nevadas U.S. Senate seat from Republican Dean Heller in November.
Democrats may loathe Trump, hate his policies and detest his personality, but theres one thing they cant agree on: whether to support his impeachment and removal from office.
The divide is complicating efforts to claw their way back to power in Novembers midterm election, pitting party leaders against liberal activists, opening a rift with one of Democrats most generous donors, and forcing candidates to choose between mollifying their base and reaching out to independents and others they need to win a majority in Washington.

(30,613 posts)We will not take 2/3 of the Senate.
The GOP is 100% corrupt and will not support restoration of the rule of law.
So we have to make a realistic plan to reign in Turd and damage the GOP.

(6,378 posts)Impeachment without conviction would do nothing but fire up the Trump base, would make him appear invincible and would allow him to spend the rest of the term ranting about how the liberals tried to impeach him, but he beat them yet again.

(9,291 posts)a conference call with the voters? Stop acting powerless, watch America to learn how to fight.
If we regain the house, then Trump will blame us for everything he fucks up on with his EOs. If you don't understand what is going to happen, then move out of the way. Mueller can always jail them all later, make his job easier, get Trump away from his federal protection.

(17,865 posts)than a shiny new Pence for the next two years. Failed impeachment drives always backfire.
Representatives should run on doing their job which includes oversight over the executive branch. Until the Mueller investigation is further along, it is premature to talk about impeachment.

(16,104 posts)If this jackass committed crimes and evidence of these crimes is presented to the House - there's no "strategy."
Charge his ass with impeachment, and then try him in the Senate.
That's in the US Constitution!

(28,270 posts)then worry about anything else. Why are we even talking about this now?
We are taking it for granted that the blue wave will happen and that is a dangerous mindset IMO.

(56,829 posts)I think running on checking the epic levels of corruption in the White House is a better strategy.
If they hold public hearings, somebody like Don Jr, Jared Kushner or somebody else will make a fool of themselves on TV and then we can say, "We gave them a chance, but these outrageous actions leave us no choice but to begin impeachment proceedings..."

(55,445 posts)1. Let Mueller's investigation run its course and THEN make the decision on impeachment...
2. In the meantime, obstruct Trump on EVERYTHING, no matter what... And THAT INCLUDES VOTING AGAINST ALL OF HIS NOMINEES, EVEN THE TEMPORARILY SANE ONES... Filibuster, pull the fire alarms, release a bunch of exotic termites in the chamber, just do whatever you have to do...
3. And for the love of God, plot out a long-term gameplan to undo Trump's damage, in all three branches of the government, in legislation and in every watchdog/regulatory agency...
