HR King Henry Aaron on WH invite refusals: "There's nobody there I want to see."

"I can understand where the players are coming from. I really do. I understand they have their own issues and things they feel conviction about. They have a right to that, and I probably would be the same way, there’s no question about it."

“I think they ought to voice their opinion, regardless of what one may think,” Aaron said. “We didn’t get to where we are today because we kept our mouth closed or scratched our head and sat and didn’t do anything."

Aaron faced racial backlash all the time. He got hate letters every day. He had racial slurs shouted at him nightly.

and it's Henry Aaron."

Still get chills listening to Milo Hamilton's call of Aaron breaking Ruth's record. As far as I'm concerned Aaron is the home run champion of all-time, permanently. Was watching that night when Hank hammered 715. Funny thing is, I didn't know anyone who wasn't pulling for him to break Ruth's record. Was shocked when, sometime later, it came out how racists had harrassed him while in pursuit of the record.
