1 in 6 children in the United States face hunger - but yet were talking about SHS

This is what is wrong with America. 1 in 6 children in the United States face hunger. The news media, even DU, is focused on Sarah being asked to leave a dining establishment. https://www.nokidhungry.org/who-we-are/hunger-facts

Lets feed the kids.

I'm going to donate to my local food bank today, in Sarahs name.

Edit to add you can find your local food bank here:

1 in 6 children in the United States goes to bed hungry.

5 in 6 of you don't give a shit about that.

More of you are offended that I just said "shit" than are offended by the staggering number of hungry children in this self-styled greatest nation.

Last week it was Melania's jacket, now we're on to Sarah Sanders and the restaurant. I can't believe the crap we get hung up on while important issues are mostly ignored. Earlier today, on another thread, I asked about Flint, Michigan, Syria, the people in Puerto Rico.

Last week on Morning Joe, Mike Barnicle commented on how we chatter about Trump's tweets 24/7 while ignoring what's really important. He's so right.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting about hunger in the United States. I so appreciate all the efforts at our food banks and donate every week. Sometimes our post master sends a notice asking for customers to put canned goods in our mailboxes. The cans get collected and go directly to our food pantry. Every time I go to either grocery store in the neighboring village, I look to see if the food pantry box is where it should be. If a clerk forgets to put it out, I ask her/him to please do so. They're always good about it.

I was dirt poor and went hungry many times as a child. Decades later, my heart breaks to think that today....in this country of ours....one out of every six kids goes hungry. It's shameful, and a hell of a lot more important than Sarah Sanders or Melania's green jacket.

DU isn't a think tank or policy research center meant to address systemic poverty

When the spokesperson for an assclown politician gets booted from a restaurant, I expect to hear what DUers have to say about it

thanks for posting it, this should be part of the media discussion along with the water in Flint and whatever the hell is going on in Puerto Rico.

Might it not have to do with the power structures in our society and our political system?

I am quite capable of donating to my local food shelf, AND to the ACLU, AND to Democratic political candidates, AND express outrage about right wing bullshit - all at the same time.

Living life as a human being is a multi-faceted endeavor. It means being able to pay attention to more than one thing at a time.
