Does she ever bring in her babies for dinner? If so, it's the mother and she's a girl. Skunks are polygynous, which means the daddy never knows his kits and has no part in raising them.

I have a great respect for skunks and never want to threaten them, but they are beautiful to look at.

I know skunks pretty well having been volunteered to start a community garden some years back Love baby skunks. They stick right by mom. And they all seem to have Billy Idol hair.

no telephone, no tv. NPR on the radio. daytime we watched chippie eat our seeds, birds, red squirrels. PM while plaing cards we'd watch the coons. one year we had 5 babies coons & 2? baby squnks. they pointed their but†s at †he baby coons if †hey came closer. flying squirrels. did pet the flying squirrel.

As a kid we had one in the yard. My mom would hang laundry on the line with the skunk a few feet away
looking for food. Never bothered any of us. Guess we were just used to one another. Neither of us took the other as a threat.

Unless you do something they perceive as a thread, they mind their own business. It may help that they're extremely myopic and can't see worth a flip beyond 10FT too.

That skunk is the one to be afraid of! I left dog food and water out for three baby opossums after they were orphaned. Their eyes are red/reflective and they have enormous claws and teeth. My dog was skunked and it was not pretty. I could still smell it 6 months later whenever she got damp. The smell was in my purse too. You should have seen the reaction when I paid for my stuff at the market and skunk smell came out.

I got in the habit of providing food for stay cats and other critters in the winter month. None of my cats have been sprayed. The husky that was here several years ago was a different story.

I've had some around here and as long as I move slowly they pretty much let me go about my business while they forage. I had one by my trash can in the alley and I was able to put my trash in without disturbing it and s/he was almost directly underfoot. Live and let live.

The coloration is a little different than any skunk I have seen. A lot more white than I expected. I, too, love baby skunks. I love to watch the moms and their babies moving from place to place as they look like dark, rapid moving water. I'll add my request for baby skunk pictures if you get some. Thank you for sharing!
