This is authoritarianism. And it's hard to be polite in the face of it.

(15,543 posts)You unleashed this corrupt, treasonous, fascist crapstorm on the USA and the world. And now you are going to sit on your well-padded asses and not even raise a peep of objection? Dereliction of your duties as citizens. If you are OK with this shit happening, you do not deserve America. Shame on you all.

(18,837 posts)One could say "Hey...she's just another senior citizen who drank the Trump brand Kool-aid." But she got the crowd going.
Things have now taken the "angry villagers" tone, from the old black & white Frankenstein movies.
People often do things for two reasons...out of the desire for reward, or out of the fear of punishment.
When the "deplorables" rail against the "fake media," Trump then steps up to the mic and tells them they are the best, smartest people, and that they were responsible for "winning."
And just as Trump craves adoration and worship, so do they. A pat on the head from Trump is like a paid pass to Disneyland with tickets for all the rides.
Since there are more than a few "adoration seekers" in his flock, you wonder how strong there ability to filter their actions might be.

(7,768 posts)gaggle and the crowd is lathered up, angry and shouting. During the campaign, security was so concerned for Katy Tur of MSNBC, they escorted her to her car.
He's whipping up hate and someone is going to get hurt. He wants someone to get hurt.
He said he'd pay their legal bills, remember? 'Cept he won't, of course.
Then there was his all-time classic "second amendment solution" for Hillary.
If there is blood, it's on this bastard. He'll have to own it. It will cost him.

(118,379 posts)... I am persuaded myself that the good sense of the people will always be found to be the best army. They may be led astray for a moment, but will soon correct themselves. The people are the only censors of their governors: and even their errors will tend to keep these to the true principles of their institution. To punish these errors too severely would be to suppress the only safeguard of the public liberty. The way to prevent these irregular interpositions of the people is to give them full information of their affairs thro the channel of the public papers, and to contrive that those papers should penetrate the whole mass of the people. The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them ...
