By Kate Riga | June 26, 2018 8:38 am
In a long and winding interview with the New York Times on Monday, Kanye West discussed his support for President Donald Trump and the immense pressure he felt as a prominent black voice to get behind Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.
He said he was castrated, that people told him: You have to like Hillary. Thats got to be your choice.
He compared the situation to an arranged marriage.
because youre black, because you make very sensitive music, because youre a very sensitive soul, it was like an arranged marriage or something, he said. And Im like, thats not who I want to marry.
He said that his support is more emotional than academic. Having a political opinion thats overly informed, its like knowing how to dress, as opposed to being a child I like this. I hear Trump talk and Im like, I like the way it sounds, knowing that theres people who like me that dont like the way it sounds, he said, adding that he does not support all of Trumps policies.
West made headlines recently when he emerged from his Twitter hiatus with a series of supportive tweets about Trump, calling him his brother and claiming that the two share dragon energy. Soon after, he drew intensive fire for calling slavery a choice during an interview with TMZ.

(1,461 posts)He is staggeringly huge in popularity in all continents.
Few outside the US give a rat's red arse about what his politics are in regards to the shitgibbon. I live traveling between London and the Nordics, and travel globally, and each day the US under Trump is written off more and more. His regime is self-slitting the throat of the US on almost every level.

(4,955 posts)They certainly don't suffer from being "overly informed" and like being treated and behaving like children.
Why waste time immersing yourself in facts when you can be showered with bull.....

(33,669 posts)shows a great ignorance to the history of black men in this country.
Kanye, I would say your opinion isn't just not "overly informed" but not informed in the slightest.

(9,350 posts)I think he said that because he is trying to play to the Conservatives. Conservatives love to claim Democrats want to castrate black men. They love to claim that Democrats want to feminize black men. Claiming that he felt castrated will make Kanye a darling of Conservatives.
Just to be clear I do not think Kanye is unaware of what happened to black men in this country. I think he is using that history to try to gain himself more support from Conservatives.
I don't know if I can give him that much credit.

(21,646 posts)Trump lovers could get to that point of confession but then again he thinks slavery was a choice when available history shows that is false so maybe even all these trump fans like West admitting that it is all emotional choices to themselves will not help fix thier stupid plus they are not seeking to be educated in facts to change because they do not want to be " overly informed "

(9,350 posts)If Hillary Clinton had become President, Kanye would now be claiming to be her biggest supporter. He supported Clinton because he thought she was going to win and therefore be the one in power. He is only saying this now because Donald Trump is President and he is trying to gain Trump's support and sympathy. I would not be surprised to see Kanye once again support the Democratic Party if a Democrat were to win the presidency in 2020.

(17,867 posts)I always thought Clinton embracing him was a mistake during the election. I know it was a package deal with Beyonce. I barely know who the two are, but I know I would not want my campaign associated with those songs (I looked up the lyrics when the controversy hit). It didn't change my vote, and I didn't say anything about it at the time (what good would it have done). Now is the time for a little introspection in our expectations for our next candidate.
