Jack Daniel's price to jump 10% thanks to Trump's trade war, whiskey maker warns

Cost will increase after existing stockpiles run down over the next couple of months, drinks maker says
Ben Chapman 2 hours ago

The price of Jack Daniel's will jump by around 10 per cent in the European Union thanks to trade tariffs imposed by the bloc, the whiskey maker has warned.

Brussels slapped a 25 per cent tariff on a host of American products including bourbon whiskey, motorbikes and orange juice in retaliation for the Trump administration’s own tariffs on steel and aluminium.

A spokesperson for Jack Daniel's parent company Brown-Foreman said on Monday that prices could rise by 10 per cent once distributors' stockpiled supplies begin to run out over the next couple of months.

The firm makes around a quarter of its revenues in Europe and is not the only US company feeling the effects of an escalating trade war triggered by the US president.

I'm always amazed at what they charge over there for Jack. You'd think it was a premium whiskey or something. It's actually kinda funny what they try to charge for it in the "duty free". You can get it vastly cheaper at a big box liquor store, so much so that the duties, if any, won't matter.

And this probably affects more than Jack. Beam, and Makers are probably also included in this.

The US based producers will increase their prices to make up for foreign sales losses and the fact that the import whiskey prices will be going up.

their prices to almost the same level, so yes, we will see higher prices across the board as well. The match has been thrown on a inflation bonfire by trump who cares or understands so little

Vodka doesn't only come from Russia, and all prices may go up when European and Canadian vodkas go up in price.

It's still contested.

I can't recall the sources, but they were peer reviewed research papers, when I had a .edu account.

I have been able to tolerate doofus thus far, but don't know if I will last until midterms unless Mueller releases a torrent of indictments.
