The Rude Pundit: In 2010, Republicans Won Because of Incivility and Anger

Quickie: In 2010, Republicans Won Because of Incivility and Anger

Let me take you back, way, way back, all the way to the ancient age of 2009 and 2010. A black Muslim man was uppity enough be president. Evil Democrats had majorities in both the House and Senate. And a brave rebel named Mitch McConnell was willing to stop any legislation from ever being passed again. Simpler times, man, simpler times.

A noble band of patriots called "the Tea Party" decided to take their country back or make it great again or something because the black Muslim and the evil Democrats had dared to give them health insurance. So they took their righteous anger to town hall meetings held by the Democrats and any Republicans who dared to want to work with the black Muslim, and they ranted and raged until they silenced anyone who wanted to talk about issues until many members of Congress decided to just avoid town halls with their constituents.

And, of course, the media condemned the incivility, and Republicans lost because they couldn't control their more radical voters.

Oh, no, wait. The media, for the most part, wanted to understand the rage of the tri-corner hat-wearing yokels, and the 2010 blood red tide turned the Congress Republican. Yeah, that happened.

Rage works. We're angry because they want to take away health care, imprison children, and gut the government. Learn to ride the wave, Democrats, or you're gonna just ebb and break before you ever reach shore.

country. No civility whatsoever. Anyone protesting at a Trump event is still treated the same way. However, these were simple town hall meetings in which public discourse was supposedly welcomed. Hah!! Fat chance.

Is unbiased in assessing whether civility is good or not.

But also Obama won despite enormous uncivil behavior. Uncivil behavior cost Todd Akin and others.

Sometimes we lose, sometimes we win, but making ourselves what we hate, that doesn't mean we'd win.

that Obama and the Dems not trying to embrace the anger that so many Americans had at Wall Street and the Banks because of the meltdown, and allowing the Tea Party to co-opt that anger was the gravest mistake in the 2010 election.

Twice I have been alerted and deleted for saying this. ("don't bash Dems" )

If we can't talk about our mistakes, how can me make the right choices next time.

Bernie was the one taking that message around the country. HRC was playing the competency, insider's game. Trump was a cross between a dancing bear and an insult comic.

Once the conventions were over, HRC amped up her message and Trump picked up the populist theme that the Dems ignored.

She still won the PV, but the degraders' coalition shaved enough points to get the EV win.

Come on folks, this ain't beanbag.

Bernie didn't cost us the election, ignoring what he had to say did.

... and I wrote on/videotaped them. They were passionate, but not crazy-mean-stupid. Like the Occupy movement, we Democrats and progressives protest quite differently than the Tea Party crowd. There is so much more heart and intelligence in the bombast.

It IS time to rise up, and not fear great aunt so-and-so's wagging finger. My great aunt would applaud the bolder, louder, fiestier Democrats of today's resistance. In the 50s/60s she fought loud and hard against animal abuse and did it with volume – but she CARED. And that's the difference.

If we start to get our backs to the wall – as we are today – the mean might start to emerge. It's a fight-or-flight animal response. But even now we have enough courage of our convictions – and the best films/literature to back them up – that we have locked in a more intelligent response apparatus.

Stay the course... but do increase volume (not the mean and stupid).

being "uncivil". So let's be "uncivil" and confront them rhetorically whenever we get a chance. And then pile on. Don't let go of our issues. Keep fighting. It's really simple. I do it all the time. Many hate me for it and others love me for it. That is the way it works in politics. Like it or not, it is the only way to win.

is exactly what the right wingers are, assholes. Treating assholes civilly just encourages continuation of the asshole behavior. Their assholishness is a self inflicted infestation that needs to be dealt with confrontationally.

When encountering one of these assholes keep your eyes on your opponent and one hand on your wallet and the other on your significant other. Neither are safe in the assholes zone of shittiness. Never doubt an assholes ability to grin while pooping all over everything, seemingly oblivious to all social norms.

So having rightly established that The ratpublicans are assholes, they adore the term Deplorable and proudly display it. It is time they reckon with the fact that they they have sown a shitty wind. A wind which they now complain is reaping a sour whirlwind. Well life is tough assholes and you brought this on yourselves.

Note to Chuck the appeaser Schumer, bite me.

I AM seeing more "true reporting" in the MSM, but that can only be a start - we've got to press our case, reveal the TRUTH, and GET OUT THE VOTE!!!!

or anything since then? Or are they winning since then (for other reasons) IN SPITE OF it? Not sure it actually justifies us acting uncivil in response. We don't have to not be mad or angry or not protest injustices, etc., but resorting to Tea Party-like behavior isn't what I want to see happen to our side either.
