I mean, sure, there are lots of Democratic Voices, but this practice of holding Primaries and picking a candidate six months before the presidential election is nonsense. Primaries divide parties (remember Sanders/Clinton?) and six months before a presidential election is no time to be dividing the party.
I want to know who my candidate will be NOW. I want him/her to be out there NOW, uniting the party and leading when we need it most. People need time to wrap their heads around a presidential candidate and get behind them. Six months just doesn't cut it.
Primaries for minority parties should be held two years prior to presidential elections.
We Dems deserve a Leader now, and while we have scores of much appreciated democratic voices (Schiff, Swallwell, Lieu, Pelosi, et al), it just feels like we don't have one. And I've never needed a Leader more.
Just MHO, but food food for thought.

(36,577 posts)I'm convinced that if the dems win any kind of influence ever again, dem leadership will "put our difference aside & work with our colleagues across the aisle to heal the nation."
Personally, I'm with Maxine Waters. The time for being nice is over.

(9,897 posts)This is NOT a Democratic Party bash either, it is the same for both major parties and all smaller bids. People do not want clarity and order in our candidate pool, that doesn't sell ads or create programming for months on end, nor does it pay for the chattering class - you know, all those people filling air time every damn night that USED to do things like investigative journalism and expose things like the Pentagon Papers and Watergate and Abu Gharib...
The primary season is high theater for the endless campaign coverage and breathless horse race analogies...does jack all to inform the public either, but hey, fuck it, ratings are good and that supersedes everything else anyway.
The party can't have a leader because the party is beholden to donors and the donors LIKE the power they hold too...so they won't open the purse strings or organize on principles and the media won't ask meaningful questions because they too like the "drama" (and the ratings that brain-dead nation provides).
Sorry, I have lost all hope again today...I may need to get on some meds pretty soon because this is really as low as I have been in many, many years...

(171 posts)I've been sick physically/mentally/emotionally ever since this cretin who the election 2 years ago. I don't enjoy the things I used to enjoy. All I can muster some days is cynicism and anger. It truly sucks.
Sigh.

The presidential field will shape up. But let's worry about the midterms first. NY, go out and vote today.

(58,724 posts)That seems like a good thing. Better than just pointing to one person as "Leader".
