Washington Post: Primary in deep blue district indicates Democrats in disarry

James Hohmann: “In many ways, Crowley’s defeat is analogous to then-House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s unexpected fall in a Virginia GOP primary four years ago this month. Republicans fared well in the midterms that year, just as Democrats almost certainly will this November, but Cantor’s downfall was a clear harbinger of the mass disruption to come, including Trump’s takeover of the GOP.”

“Just like loathing of Barack Obama kept Republicans united in 2014, disgust with the president will keep Democrats together going into the fall elections. But make no mistake: The party’s identity crisis will be front and center after November, especially if Nancy Pelosi steps down or gets dislodged as the leader of House Democrats. The internecine conflict could become all-consuming in the free-for-all nominating contest to take on Trump in 2020 and cause a leftward lurch that helps the president win reelection.”

16,000 voters in a district of plus 700,000 - 47% Hispanic!

They SO want a race in November mid-terms - - even if they have to make it up.

(They want my credit card number to see the WaPo article)

Some are reading far too much into this.

Why can't they just congratulate her. She worked very hard. Give Ocasio Cortez credit, not outside sources or overblown talk of party identity.

This was a VERY local race. She was VERY smart candidate and took advantage of every weakness her opponent had. This is nothing more than proving that every congressional race is "local".

Crowley won the seat before it was redistricted - he doesn't even live in the current version of the district (he lived in the previous one from which he got elected).

Ocasio-Cortez won because she is the ideal candidate for this district.

Nope. Deep blue districts want deep blue reps; purple districts want purple reps, and that’s ok. We have the right to elect ppl who reflect their districts, and demand they work together to represent us. America is complicated demographically & our reps need to reflect that

a media desperate for a horse race. With all the ugliness out there, this is what they're harping on: a Democrat wins in a deep blue district and will undoubtedly (doesn't mention this simple truth) win in November?

Carry on.

I don't find the word disarray on WaPo or on the OP's link other than in the comments. It is possible the headline was changed.

WaPo link is in my earlier post.
