Not for just one cause but for the sake of the nation. I want to be positive. I don't want things to go bad. But I already have visions of riots in the street.

(15,064 posts)I assume you are military or a veteran. (No insult intended. I do not know you personally. Some have used icons to fool folks and their intentions.) So you know what sacrifice is. Everything my relatives and friends died for and fought for, during previous wars, is now being slowly consumed by an authoritarian beast. Do we just sit back and let it happen? Voting is just one element for change. I myself will contact every congressman and senator I can to ad a voice. But I am just one person. I am willing to listen to any and all opinions on how to end this nightmare.

(1,622 posts)...and as such, I definitely know what sacrifice is. That being said, I most certainly don't intend to just sit idly by and watch our great country devolve into a morass of ultra right-wing lunacy. The Rethugs are just waiting, looking, and hoping for an excuse to go kinetic on those whose views differ from theirs because they firmly believe they'll have the decidedly upper hand if/when it comes to that. I'm all for getting-out-the vote, writing letters, fundraising, contacting congressmen and senators, etc. and so on but I'm more concerned with what happens if/when those efforts fail and we edge ever-closer to the abyss. We all have our parts to play and we all have our own areas of strength and expertise so...
Never mind. I'll just leave it there...

(1,004 posts)We need two Republican Senators to block any nominees. Target ones who think they might have something to gain: maybe Heller.
Other than that, see if we can swing the outgoing ones: Flake, Corker, McCain. Man, wouldn't it be sweet, sweet justice if McCain rode to the rescue as one of his final acts?

(14,167 posts)These are our best bests to vote against the Republican nominee.
Corker won't stand up to Trump, IMO, but it might not be a bad idea to try to appeal to any sense of decency he may have.

(4,450 posts)If people wanna march, then march. If they wanna riot, then riot. And if there are folks who chose a quiet exit from all of this, that's ok too.

(4,450 posts)Like I said, every sucker for him/herself. Vote if you want... I will if I'm still around. Riot if you want but I'm too old for that shit and don't want to die in prison. March if you want. Whatever works for you.

(6,930 posts)After the dotards election, I remember countless posts saying people were too afraid even to have a Hillary bumper sticker.
Our fighting back ideas right here on du were: wearing safety pins (never got that one), turning magazines back to front at the grocery store, changing channels from Fox to other channels at family homes...lord, I have forgotten the other brave and revolutionary resistance ideas. Has something changed?
