In reality, it's probably a normal courtesy that all retiring judges have afforded all presidents. CincyDem Jun 2018 #4

IIRC, some justice that Bartlett really disliked made an appointment to see him. Bartlett made some joke about hoping it was a resignation. Turns out that was it but it was because the guy was really sick (or maybe his wife ???)...anyway, by the time the episode was over Bartlett had a newfound respect for the guy.

Not suggesting that happened today by any means...just highlighting the civic class where I learned it. lol

But....but....all the very smart and sensible people told me countless times how were were hanging our hat on his precious swing vote and his very serious jurisprudence.

Of course those were the same people who said "We shouldn't use the nuclear option or get rid of the 60 vote rule because then it will come back to bite us when Republicans are in charge.

And then they used it for Gorsuch anyway.

Something tells me we need to stop fucking listening to these very sensible people.

I'm sure Trump told him he would appoint a center right Justice just like him.

"Kennedy informed his colleagues of his plans, then went to the White House to meet with Trump, where the president said they talked for half an hour about a potential successor and other topics."

With a list of centrist judges and urged drump to keep the court evenly split at least. And maybe drumpf promised to do so, so Kennedy agreed to retire?

Oh and maybe pigs will fly out of my butt.
