(33,475 posts)McConnell doesn't care about ethics, he cares about winning. That's how he beat Obama.

(33,475 posts)he interpreted the blank spaces in the rules as saying he didn't have to act, and the Senate Dems didn't even retaliate by grinding any and all Senate business to a halt. Barely a peep was heard by the public over the clamor of Trump's self-love.
McConnell is better at being Senate Majority Leader than Reid was. He's an evil snake who knows that all that matters is Power.
Power talks, Ethics walks.

Before you delete, here is the post I'm replying to:

It sounds like you admire his tactics. huh.

(33,475 posts)but that is not how Political Power operates, and not how it has ever operated. McCain's "Return to Comity" was hollow bullshit when he said it.
I disagree that it was cheating. "Bent the rules", sure. It was unethical, but the Constitution says what it says. It doesn't say how soon they needed to provide advise and consent. He applied the leverage his power and the Framers afforded him, and Dems didn't.
Go ahead an copy paste this post too. I'm a cynic, not a fucking Republican.

(3,813 posts)I'd like my political leaders to (1) lead, and (2) actually use the power they have rather than whine about what they can't do. Unfortunately, Republicans have been much better at this than have Democrats for at least the past ~40 years.
I posted a thread about what Democratic Senators can actually DO to slow or stop the nomination. It's sinking like a stone in GD. Clearly, it's more important to scold Jill Stein voters (who are not at DU!) than it is to discuss actual strategy...

(22,981 posts)Being an evil snake does not make him better at his job than Reid. It makes him an evil snake. Without ethics we do not have a viable democracy.

(22,981 posts)we have a Democratic majority in both houses. We are too close to an election, anyway, according to McConnell.

(253 posts)David - The word hypocrisy is too tired for the job youve given it here. Even chutzpah and gross effrontery are not up the task. I cant think of a single expression that is adequate.
One thing I think we can agree on though is that McConnell is pure, unadulturated evil!
