Yes, as far back as 01/17. Seems Justin knew back then.
TORONTO Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has a message for refugees rejected by U.S. President Donald Trump: Canada will take you.
He also intends to talk to Trump about the success of Canadas refugee policy.
Trudeau reacted to Trumps ban of Muslims from certain countries by tweeting Saturday: To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength #WelcomeToCanada.
Trudeau also posted a picture of him greeting a Syrian child at Torontos airport in late 2015. Trudeau oversaw the arrival of more than 39,000 Syrian refugees soon after he was elected.

(1,336 posts)....I read an article where IQ45 made some threatening remarks about Canada's plethora of fresh water and how parts of the US were in a continuous state of drought. I really and truly fear his intentions towards my country, so I'm not sure you folks would be any safer up here. I know we could certainly count on our allies -- especially Great Britain and France, and even China -- to help defend against the US. But I still worry, and many of us Canucks do.
We're depending on you all (y'all!) to get rid of the hazardous piece of waste that lives in your White House, and to VOTE and work your butts off to change the complexion of the House (and, if at all possible, the Senate) in November. And we all wait with baited breath for the Mueller Report. And gawd help us all if he isn't allowed to present it.

(11,580 posts)I have been on the "They'll come for our water - wait for it" bandwagon since the B43 administration. He mentioned the issue in 2 difference speeches, and I was appalled that more wasn't made of it.
In one - I believe it was to the General Assembly - he said "Water is a North American resource." Well, in as much as there is water on both sides of both borders, in varying amounts...yes.
So, in the share-and-share-alike spirit, I imagine the American govt and the country's industrial and commercial juggernauts will be cutting out a proportional piece for Canada, right? I mean, if we're talking about North America-wide resources....

I have had many serious talks with my spouse about this subject and we both agreed we'd take in US refugees if it came to that. No question.

(701 posts)Hondurans, el Salvadorans and Guatemalans should be welcomed by Canada and USA because they are refugees from our backyard. They share values and religion and need to flee dangerous situations. I think Trudeau has a responsibility in this local humanitarian crisis.

(701 posts)A great episode comparing US to Canada. I am envious and living in a state next door to border Ive considered it many times.
We were more like Canadians at one time but we changed They could change too as money talks everywhere and more and more arrive and corporations become stronger. I always thought Harper could have been the one. Perhaps their form of government makes the difference. We have dug a very deep and tragic hole for ourselves.

(2,947 posts)instead of on the US economy, we'd have a fighting chance. I've read news stories that they're considering this. We'll find out on July 1st.
